Tuesday

Yay for being called into work four hours before you were supposed to on the last day before classes start! FUCKING YAY! 8 hour shifts for the lose.

The chapter is honestly and truly almost done. I've got approximately 74 pages done. The first 50 and the last 24, so now I've just got to glue them together. Certainly by the end of the week for an update =)

  1. Sweetness!!! Can't Wait... and at least you get some money :)

  2. I can't wait. I read the whole story again. I'm still going to check everyday cause I love reading the comments on here.

  3. You have no idea how happy this is making me right now. I was the one who had mentioned awhile ago that my parents were getting a divorce, and recently my dad has almost lost it and life is out of control. Nice to know I have something to fall back on :)

Also, Jules: I really think that your writing ability is fantastic, and if it's a dream of yours to write a book and publish it then I see nothing stopping you.

  4. Yayayayayy!!!! =)

I'll have to reread the last few chapters (or... the Ch 28 at the very least). I, unfortunately, started my new semester a week and a half ago, so no time for the whole thing.

    But I can't wait!! :D:D

  6. I think I'm going to be known as the girl who brings up random things on this blog, but I think everyone should watch this video:

  17. Sirius parts of those vids always kill me. this is bad. i'm about to spend an inordinate amount of time on youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm not even judging you. I do that all the time.

They say that for the scene in OotP where Sirius dies, the director actually decided to mute the scene because Dan's screams were too heart-wrenching. A masochistic part of wants to see it with sound.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I came here to see if anyone had watched the video and I started watching the videos you posted. I just spent almost an hour just on youtube.

@bree: oh my gosh that sounds amazing/horrible.

  20. This weekend? Yay, I might be able to read it before I leave! But 80 pages!.. I don't think I'll be able to finish it (I'm quite a slow reader)... maybe I'll print it out and take it with me... Yes, I think I shall do that.

I used to think I was the biggest Harry Potter geek in the world, but judging by the above comments, it appears not. Must remedy that...

  21. @Sara--My friend is like the queen of youtube--I roomed with her last year, and literally EVERY DAY she would have AT LEAST one new youtube video that I just had to watch. So I fully appreciate the random post ;) Plus, look at what a nice thread it started, haha.

Can I just say that this blog + HP + TLAT + all of you = TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Also, speaking of the muting thing, did anyone else get chills from Emma's screams while Bellatrix was torturing her? And if they didn't mute that, I can't imagine how awful Dan's must have been....*shudder*

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah her screams gave ne the chills. The only thing that bugged me about that scene was that they minimized Ron's reaction. In the book, his screams were what made the whole scene so heart breaking. But again, I heard they filmed two versions, one with Rupert screaming like in the book and what we saw in the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @bree- I kind of felt that way too, but i'm starting to like his reaction better. Like he can't process it or something? I don't know, whenever I don't like something about the films I try and find a way to defend it and make sense of it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Such a good scene, though. All in all, I'd say DH pt. 1 is the best HP adaptation so far, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah I agree. I loved it best out all seven so far. It's funny because I've always wondered if people who haven't read the books know what is going on. So I asked my best friend (who refuses to read the books) if she had any idea what was happening and she said no. She said she stopped knowing what was going on since HBP. She didn't even properly know what a Horcrux was until I explained it.

But I suppose that's what people get for not reading a series that's been complete for almost four sodding years.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Now I'm all psyched for Part 2 damn it! I stayed away from spoilers for Part 1 because I cannot handle them. Like, thinking about it, I get too nervous and excited and can't do anything productive. No joke. I only watched the one trailer, and I got heart palpitations.

Speak of which, does anyone know when we get a Part 2 trailer??

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Bree, i totally get why your friend didn't understand anything past HBP bc i have to admit that i am so disappointed in that movie. They seemed to make it centered around the "love stories" more than the Horcruxes. The fact that we didn't see all the memories Dumbledore produced in the books is ridiculous, no wonder people are confused about Part 1 (which is also my favorite so far). My aunt said the same thing about not being sure about whats going on. I nag her incessantly to read the books and tell her that i will disown her if she doesn't..

    ReplyDelete
  29. I need to rewatch HBP, but I remember being SO pissed that they didn't have all the memories. Those were my favorite part of the books, and I'm a little curious how they're gonna handle all the stuff they haven't talked about yet. My memory is sketch, but have they mentioned Hufflepuff's cup? And, honestly, for all the attention they paid to the "romance" they didn't do it very well. Ron/Hermione were adequately handled, but I don't think you need me to talk about Harry/Ginny.

That being said... can I just...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FesOs8Ii6o

^^and THAT'S how Jules died. (Death by youtube.)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Damn. It won't let me see the video on mobile but I think I've seen it before. As for hbp, no they did not mention the cup. Also, I've been wondering how the hell is Harry going to remember about the the diadem? In hbp he hid the potion's book himself and used the headbust as a marker. That's how he remembered about it in DH... but in the movie, Ginny hid it. The camera didn't even pan other so the audience has no idea. Anyway... there's no excuse. The book had been out when they filmed and even if it wasn't they have JKR as reference, goddammit.

PS. The radio is playing Audrey (aka Drake [aka Jimmy]). Lulz.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't remember if anything is said specifically about Helga's cup either. Maybe just about the property of the founders? I should do a rewatch, but like I said, it just disappoints me to think about let alone watch. Everything you said Jules...ugh, i cannot even start bc i will RANT.

heres hoping you a pleasant writing day, Jules!
    -as anon 1:37 aka Candace

    ReplyDelete
  32. You know, the reason I disliked the HBP movie (and let's be honest, I actually loved most of the movie) is because they ignored all these things that they had to cram into DH Part 1&2. Bill and Fleur. Scrimgeour. Horcruxes. REMUS AND TONKS. Dobby. Kreacher. Neville's awesomeness. Snape hearing the Prophecy.

And now they're adding most of that stuff in like as an afterthought. "Oh, yeah, I'm Bill Weasley and I'm getting married, but you knew that." "Hey, I'm the new Minister of Magic and you don't like me, Harry." "Harry, guess what? Kreacher is bound to you and Dobby's been working in the Hogwarts kitchens for three years and he's met Ron and Hermione off-screen." I mean, really. Two seconds in the earlier movies? This is why, though I'm a complete fan, I believe they should have waited for all the books to come out before making the movies to go along with.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @kneelb4todd- Yeah I find it so stupid that they left a lot of important things (ie. the memories) out of the movies, but I'm really happy that they're just acting like we already know about them. Yeah, people who haven't read the books will be confused about a few things, but honestly, I would hate if they spent time trying to properly introduce them. That would take so much time out of the movie, just because they messed up on the earlier ones. If people are confused they have seven books to consult. That's just my opinion :)
    -Sara

    ReplyDelete
  34. @kneelb4todd--Seriously, REMUS AND TONKS!!! OMG that was my FAVORITE scene from the book, and I was SO MAD when they were just like, oh yeah ps they're together....yeah.

As for things they will have trouble explaining in DH pt. 2--how will they show how Snape knew where they were when he planted the sword? No Phineas to tell him they were in the Forest of Dean...

    And Sirius's mirror...totally never explained.

And the diadem thing. So pretty much, good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Todd: You are absolutely right. I don't understand why they didn't mention any of those things in HBP and left it all to be crammed in DH.

What I understand even less is that scene where Bellatrix & co. turn of at The Burrow and destroy it. That didn't even happen in the books. Okay, I understand that you can only fit in so much into a 2 hour movie, so some stuff has to get the chop... but why add stuff that DIDN'T HAPPEN, and leave out stuff that did? WHERE is the logic in that?

I mean it was a good scene and all, but what was the effing point?

And don't even get me started on Ginny and Harry's romance. Why the FUCK was she tying his shoelaces? And what on earth is up with that 'I can stay hidden up here too if you like' line?? Were the writers high when they wrote these scenes? The shipper in me was very disappointed.

The Hermione/Ron/Lavender thing was brilliant, though. And the Draco storyline. Actually the acting was the best if we've ever seen from the kiddies (DH part 1 inlcuded). There WAS a lot of good stuff in HBP - I'm just angry about all the stuff they left out and the Harry/Ginny stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "What I understand even less is that scene where Bellatrix & co. turn of at The Burrow and destroy it. That didn't even happen in the books."

Do not even get me started. I can have like a 12 hour rant about this.....*restrains self*

    ReplyDelete
  37. @3:26 After watching the midnight show for HBP I fell in love with the actress who played Lavendar Brown. She was so FUCKING hilarious. Head over heels instantly.

@Kelsey I know how you feel about the Attack of the Burrow, but for a movie it makes sense to sacrifices something familiar to instill a sense of direness and "dark times." So creatively, I respect the change. What I *don't* get is how the house was comepletely fixed in DH. Were they like, "Oh, shit, we forgot about all the scenes there. Whatever, no one's going to remember." Such a cop out.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think I figured out how they are going to explain Snape knowing where to send the sword. Hermione's talking about their current location when Harry has the two-way mirror (if I recall correctly...?) so I remember thinking in the movie that they might be able to explain it via Aberforth. Maybe???

    ReplyDelete
  39. ^ True.

Which reminds me, everyone heard Snape whisper "Trust me" when Harry saw the doe, right? Because none of my friends heard it and they thought I was crazy.

I was just telling Lindsay on FB that I am worried about the Prince's Tale. Mostly because I saw the children they cast for Lily and Sirius but I did not see anyone for James. I must... I must convince myself that I just missed his casting announcement because otherwise... a bitch fit that lasts until July will be thrown.

    ReplyDelete
  40. ^ What I hated most about the 6th movie was the fact that Harry wasn't immobulized under his cloak during Dumbledore's death scene! Harry would NEVER have stayed hidden below while everything was going on - he is no such coward!! Ugh.

Slightly off topic: Can someone recommend some good Harry/Ginny fanfics? Preferably chaptered stories, and if they are already complete, that'd be really great.

    Please :D

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm trying to resolve the Snape finding out about their location issue as well. I never considered the mirror theory, i was thinking that maybe they were gonna make it an Albus not Aberforth Dumbledore thing bc Hermione had 'The Life and Lies...' out at the time.

hmmmm. damn them for making us have to consider alternate possibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ooooh! that's kind of brilliant! I hadn't thought of that..

    ReplyDelete
  43. Regarding the mirror: did we actually see Sirius give it to Harry in OotP? I have all the movies except for that one, so I can't check.

Todd: I know that they wanted a good action scene, the Weasley's house being destroyed was sad etc., but fact is it didn't happen in the book. And so they didn't put stuff that DID happen in the book in the movie, but put stuff in that DIDN'T HAPPEN in the books into it. Why sacrifice actual book stuff for that?! Sooo not worth it.

bree: I will be so ridiculously pissed if they don't include James in the movie. I know he only briefly appears in that chapter, but STILL. I'm still upset about Snape's Worst Memory. In all seven books, that was my absolute favourite part, and the movie didn't do it justice at all. In fact, they kinda pissed all over it. So they MUST to the SWM scene properly this time, and they can't NOT include James for that. I will cry if they still leave him out.

    ReplyDelete
  44. He's not on there.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1201607/fullcredits#cast

    >='|

    ReplyDelete
  45. But Sirius is. My shit is calm because Gary Oldman is listed. I had this irrational fear that they were going to butcher the "I am going to die" sequence and not have the Marauders plus Lily.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes, that's a relief! I saw Gary listed when they began filming so I knew they wouldn't fuck up "The Forest Again". What makes no damn sense is why cast a young Sirius and not a young James, especially when I imagine the scene he'll appear in is where they first meet on the train? That's like casting a young Fred but not a George. Shit makes no sense.

    *mutters unintelligibly*

    ReplyDelete
  47. Another thing I don't get about Ginny - Bonnie Wright is actually very pretty in real life, but in the movies, they somehow make her look so plain.

I've seen her all dressed up for the premieres or on the red carpet of award shows and in mags and stuff (and did you know that she is engaged to the guy who plays Grindlewald??) and she always looks so stunningly beautiful, so why do they make her look so horrible in the movies? What do they DO to her??

Whatever it is, Emma Watson always looks her normal beautiful self (even though Hermione isn't actually meant to be beautiful...), so why cna't they make the same effort with Bonnie?

And the lines they give her! God, that was the only part of DH pt1 that I didn't like.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The screen writer is a Harry/Hermione shipper. I'm not joking; he is. Which is fine, whatever, but can he not fuck up the story for everyone else? Kthanks.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Bree: Lol, agree. They cast a young Sirius? I can't possibly see why if not for the train and SWM scene... maybe they HAVE cast a young James, but, er, for some reason they haven't said who?... or revealed him in their cast list? Is this at all possible?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jules: *frowns* Really? I don't get that. I can imagine teenage girls changing facts to suit their own fantasies, but not fully grown men... What makes you say that? He hasn't said it himself, has he?

    ReplyDelete
  51. They DO give Ginny very odd lines. I never before considered the possibility that the writer might be H/Hr shipper, but it sounds plausible...

    5:02: *crosses fingers*

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Anonymous 5:02- Yes, I really, really hope you're right.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah, I read an interview, but I can't find it now. But if you start to google "Steve Kloves ..." it subsitutes "Steve Kloves Harry Hermione" so I know I'm not crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. And IMDB is frequently wrong or incomplete, so I wouldn't say its for sure that James isn't in it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm definitely holding out for the full SWM scene in this one....

@Jules a while ago: Yeah, I thought of the mirror thing too, and the second time I saw it, I watched carefully and didn't see Harry with it until after Hermione leaves. But then, I suppose they could have been overheard even if it was just in his pocket? Oh, and no, there wasn't a scene with Sirius giving it to Harry for whoever asked.

@Bree: I didn't hear the 'trust me' thing either time I saw the movie, but then I saw it somewhere (probably here, haha) and now I really want to watch the movie again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. No, don't blame the Steve Kloves for the H/G stuff. They weren't exactly given much to go with in the books. While I love JKR, she did a shocking job in HBP with all the awful romance.

Put it this way: I USED to be a H/G shipper before HBP came out. Then I began hoping that one of the characters to die in DH would include Ginny.

    ReplyDelete
  57. With regards to Sirius giving the mirror to Harry--you could write an entire book on what WASNT in the Order of the Phoenix movie. In fact, they did. Order of the Phoenix.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Speaking of changing things for the movies....have any of you seen this:

    http://www.mugglenet.com/app/news/show/4114

    ReplyDelete
  59. ^ LOL! Nah, I liked the OotP movie. To be fair, it was gianormous... they couldn't possible include everything, and I suppose that they didn;t know then that the mirror would have any relevance later on?

    ReplyDelete
  60. They already raped all the Marauder-era references? Why not just go ahead and delete the last allusion to his time at Hogwarts?

    Whatever, it might be okay.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Kelsey: OMG NO! I only just found this out! How very upsetting... I change my mind and retract that statement I made defending Steve Kloves. I hate him. Or whoever was responsible for this.

    ReplyDelete
  62. OotP was a well done movie, but not the best adaptation in my opinion. While I accept that they have to change things, I don't think justice was done to Harry or Dumbledore in this movie. And there should have been more Ginny--they should have done with I feel JKR neglected and started to develop her there, because at that point, HBP book was out and they ought to have known better.

If any storyline should have been dropped, it should have been Grawp, I think lol. But I get why they left it in--its the only thing Hagrid gets to do in that book. But I even felt Cho was mishandled, and I've never quite recovered from the lack of Rita Skeeter.

    ReplyDelete
  63. or the lack of Harry going crazy at the end, or Dumbledore's explanation of everything, or the wording of the prophecy.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "you could write an entire book on what WASNT in the Order of the Phoenix movie. In fact, they did. Order of the Phoenix."

    L-O-L.

    ReplyDelete
  65. http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/29420631.html

^ "after [Steve Clowes] read book seven he said to me, 'You, know, I thought something was going to happen between Harry and Hermione, and I didn't know whether I wanted it or not.'"

    Interesting article for Harry/Hermione shippers...

    Also, about HBP: http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2009/06/17/countdown-to-harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince-steve-kloves-talks-up-the-final-moments-between/

At least he tried to keep the Voldy memories in there...

And I didn't know he didn't do OotP... I always liked that one the least. XP I know there was way too much to cover, but still... it didn't cover it well enough (and, obviously, as has been repeated a million times, SWM!?)

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm almost glad that they cut SWM down to the 2.5 second nonsense that it was. Has anyone seen the pictures from the set with Lily in them?! I nearly fainted the first time I saw them.

    Justine

    ReplyDelete
  67. No! I haven't seen said pictures :-O What about them? I remember seeing one with the guy who played young Snape and and young James laughing it up while on break, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @5:13- It always surprises me when people say stuff like that. I've shipped H/G since the very beginning and I think HBP was full of great romance. Harry's inner-monologue in HBP, where he tries to handle the fact that he likes his best friend's little sister, is a great buildup. Of course, this book isn't about romance, so of course there's not going to be a ton of romance in it. I mean I love Harry's reaction when he finds Ginny and Dean making out. And their kiss! Oh their kiss. And the tattoo line! And their kiss in DH! *sigh* Sorry I let my fangirl show.

I guess I just want to know why people don't like H/G.

  70. I love JKR more then life itself but she's not too good with the romance which is FINE because it's not a romance novel. I think this why i've never really cared to read any H/G fanfics or anything. And Ginny is so BORING and stiff in the movies, her character has no personality it's not like the books :(

I literally nearly cried in OOTP SWM scene. I was so unbelievably disappointed.

All this talk has inspired me to put HBP on.

ps DH1 is the only HP movie i think does true justice to the book. Of course it's not absolutely perfect like the book but that's impossible.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ok so I came into this conversation very late but my only thing to really add is they will show SWM again so maybe it will be better because they will have to build up all of those characters and then the scene will make more sense to non-readers.... maybe idk

(I looked up pictures from the SWM scene and hated the actual screen shot but found this lovely fanart http://www.mudblood428.com/art/swmsmallii.jpg (and I just saw the actual website name for the first time and thats kinda mean))

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ugh, so apparently the pic I'm looking for has disappeared from the web:/ but it wasn't a screencap from the scene. It was the actors posing together, most likely when the scene was wrapped. It was James, Snape, Sirius, Lily, Remus and Peter ( and Daniel R was in it too I think).

Lily had pigtails with pink bows...and braces I think. I'm not a violent person, but I would definitely slap the stylist who thought that appropriate for a strong willed *16* year old girl.

Lindsay, I LOVE that drawing....despite the odd URL :)

  73. That is a spectacular drawing!

  76. 7:19--that is awesome!! My favorite parts were "no need to bitch or whine" timed with Hermione punching Malfoy, the Dan/Emma high five "yeah" part (after break out your mad eyes--which, even though this was a trio-centered video, they TOTALLY should have shown Moody here....), and the ending where it flashed through Harry, Ron and Hermione in all seven years.

  77. I don't know about everyone else, but I am all re-read up. So, whenever you're ready Jules :D

    ReplyDelete
  78. "Lily had pigtails with pink bows...and braces I think."

    LOL WUT.

The actress they cast is really pretty. They should have just kept her natural look and call it a day.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Whoever said that fully grown men don't tinker around with material for their own fanboy shippings has clearly never seen True Blood. Alan Ball, you have ruined Eric.

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Bree I know, she's looks pretty on her imdb page. I feel the same way about the actor who played James. He's very handsome in his headshot but in character he looks terrible.

Side note: while searching google images for all things J/L, I was sucked into the strange and disconcerting world snape/lily. Oh my retinas, how they burn.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Oh, and while we're talking about failed adaptations in the series, am I the only one scarred for life by the break-dancing Durmstrang boys? I actually slunk down in my seat in the theater on opening night, muttering "Fire the director. Fire him."

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah! The actor they cast for James is kinda hot. I was looking at some of his pictures on Google and he is a cutie. Oh, you poor thing! That's happened to me more times than I can count (especially on Tumblr). What has been seen, cannot be unseen :'-|

    ReplyDelete

  90. I think I just like the epic use of "The Island" soundtrack--particularly at the end. On the whole, not FANTASTIC casting, obviously =P

  91. LOL. A moment of silence for all the cute animals that have died...

I need to show this to my best friend. She adores Garrett. Innocent lives will be lost.

  92. LOL.

    Look at this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HC5aZB4U4o&feature=player_embedded

Is Sirius blond? Or is that Remus?

  93. lol, i knew which one you were talking about before I even saw it. I am that sad.

No, yeah, I agree, 'cos Max is the perfect personality for Sirius, but blond =P

  94. I didn't even know there were Marauder videos until I saw that one! Then I saw this excellent video editor made one. Imagine my surprise/disgust when I realized it was Lily/Snape. Cannot unsee.

  95. Tis true. You have to be careful for that. There are a frightening number of Lily/Snape shippers. Point = missed.

  96. Oh, yeah. I learned that the hard way. I don't even look at the "Lily Evans" tag on Tumblr because 85% is Lily/Snape. I'm even careful with the "James Potter" one because I often find the occasional hate posts. And then the monster within me is unleashed.

  97. Fight the good fight, bree. Fight the good fight.

  98. As you wish, my lord.

Another thing that miffs me is that people use Darren Criss as James in graphics. Don't get me wrong, I love Darren as much as the next girl, but I don't see it. I know where comes from, "He's Harry Freakin' Potter and Harry is the spitting image of his dad hurrr durrr durrr." I *especially* hate it when they use pictures of him in his Glee costume.

As if James Potter would ever wear that.

  99. I KNOW! GAAAAHHH!

But at least there's a certain amount of affection involved in that mistake, and it's not pure loathing. That's what makes me turn into the hulk.

    ReplyDelete
  100. YES GOD YES he is the WORST JAMES POTTER EVER

    ReplyDelete
  101. Actually.... Darren Criss is one of the few that I don't mind for James. Most others seem too chiseled or modely for what I expect James to look like. Darren looks like a regular guy but still really good looking.

...I'll go hide while you throw things at me.

  102. Many throw-things-worthy statements have been made on this blog at some point or another, but that surely was not one of them.
