Am I the one who doesn't really mind the whole Carlotta and James relationship? I mean of course I want James to be with Lily, and Carlotta is kind of a slut, but... I don't necessarily hate the idea of them together. Them being together doesn't even change the fact that James still has feelings for Lily, and we all know that Carlotta is just a minor speed bump... So what is the big deal?

In every fanfiction I read, Lily is always the one with the boyfriend and James is just left in the dust with no love. Carlotta is fun and not serious, so it's not like it's going to go anywhere. I both hate and love J/C. I hate them because of the timing, of course. Lily is finally realizing what catch James is and I think pining!Lily will my break my heart.
But I love the storyline for dramatic purposes. Oh the angst! I also have a sneaking suspicion that Carlotta is gong to fall hard for James. I mean, how could she not? And considering the fact that James and lily kiss on or before new years, it looks like Carlotta is going to get a healthy dose of karma along with the heartbreak....*evil smiles*
has anyone else noticed that Carlotta is James' Luke? You know, how she is someone who James would be with. She's carefree - and i use that term loosely- and fits James. Kinda like Luke fit Lily's. I'm just sayin'.

Like everyone has said, it makes the story better, but also more realistic. Most people don't waste 6 years of their lives pining over one person. They will eventually date despite still having feelings for the person!
And just throwing it out there but I hope James and Carlotta are PDA people, maybe I like drama too much? Oh and I think it will set up some really REALLY great Sirius lines making fun of the 2. (Because we all know Sirius is a hardcore L/J shipper!)

I get it though - James spent so much time pining for Lily, and he had a hard time of it while she was with Luke... and now it's Lily's turn to feel the same.
Soon as we knew from the teasers that Carlotta would be getting a boyfriend - I wanted it to be James. ONLY beacuse I wanted her to get a taste of her own medicine. I wanted her to be cheated on or made to feel like her boyfriend wants someone else. 'Cos let's face it - all Carlotta has going for her is her looks, and if she was made aware that her boyfriend is actually more attracted to someone else, it would have been... fitting. Which is why I wanted it to be James.
And then in chpater 23 when we found out that Carlotta and James might be spending time together over the summer holidays I thought 'Haha I might be right!' and I was very excited.
BUT!!! When the almost-kiss happened, I convinced myself I was wrong about the James/Carlotta thing 'cos there's no way in hell James was going to get together with someone else when he was so close with Lily. So when it DID happen, I was very upset. I felt like my faith in James had been shaken. I mean, he didn't get together with anyone throughout all of sixth year (because of the quaffle/snitch thing) when he had practically no chance with Lily, seeing as she had a boyfriend, but now that he looked like he was getting somewhere he gets with Carlotta? I was so disappointed in him, he is not the man I thought he was :(
But I still am kinda excited about all of this. 'Cos it looks like Carlotta IS going to have issues with James and Lily. And I really REALLY hope that the Lily/James kiss happens while James is still with Carlotta, and Carlotta sees (Does that make me a bitch?) and is very upset but no-one has any symapthy for her, and everyone's all like "Yeah, we don't care 'cos we don't like you. And you kinda deserve it..."

1:59 - Hmm... mostly agree. I have no problem with James dating other people before he gets together with Lily. I mean, he IS a teenage boy after all. And we know that he was popular and admired - and no doubt that there were girls who fancied him (Lord knows that I do), so it doesn't seem unlikely to me that James had girlfriends before Lily.
But it's the timing with Carlotta that I have an issue with - I also think it's odd that he got together with Carlotta just after he almost kissed Lily. Anyone would call that progress, right? Yeah, that bothered me. If J/C happened BEFORE the almost-kiss, I wouldn't have minded it.
Like - I'm okay about Adam being with someone else. He's pined after Marlene long enough, and it seems he didn't date anyone at all in that time, even though she was with Miles. I know thats kind of convoluted but, just when he's getting somewhere, he gets shot down (with the kiss), that scares him into thinking he was just imagining the progress, and instead of putting himself out there again (like he has a million times before), he protects himself by getting together with Carlotta. Its just kind of that whole backwards dealio, since he might actually have a chance its that much more intimidating, and offers that much more opportunity to be hurt. Aaand now I'm just rambling.
