I really am so grateful to you Jules for keeping us updated so often. Some of my other favourite fanfic authors disappear for months and it's very stressful lol. So thanks!
I know everyone is going to hate me for asking this, I can't believe I'm actually about to say it, and Jules will probably find it ridiculous, but Jules, can you hold off on updating for a week? You know, until Friday? I have finals this week, and so much to do, it's insane. But I find that coming here to find out about LaT and talk to Harry Potter fans is the best way I can procrastinate; LaT is kind of eating up my life (I just recently re-read the whole thing), and that's my own fault, but it would be so nice to know that it won't be here to distract me. I have serious (or Sirius, haha) ADD. And of course, I want the next chapter as much as anyone else, but it would really be so bad for me this week. Life and Times is just too good; I wouldn't be able to resist reading the new chapter (probably twice) instead of studying and doing my work. If waiting 'til Friday just for me is too ridiculous for you, then at least don't update before Tuesday? Please?
^ LOL! I know how that feels... It's always impossible to resist when one of your fave fanfics gets updated around exam time or just before a coursework deadline. I remember one of Pinky Brown's stories got updated literally the day before an exam... but I read it anyway (and if you're familiar with Pinky Brown's stuff, then you know that she writes long chapters :D), and stayed up til late that night reading it, even though I had planned to go to bed early.
BUT even though I understand your plight... I have got to ask Jules to ignore it :P She has to go with the masses, y'know, and there's too many of us who want it sooner...

AFTER she finds out about J/C and is overcome with insane jealousy. OR on New Years Eve, which is technically 1976 but we have to wait until the very very end of it. Haha.
The kiss could definitely happen before she finds out about J/C.

Honestly it would be really stupid if Marlene gets onto the quidditch team because then that would mean that of the seven players, five are from the same year. I think talent would be a bit more spread out than just concentrated in the same year.
Oh, who cares about that? It's the real meaning of the thing, you know? The opportunities it presents. It would be Marlene's way of telling Adam that she was through living for Miles. She's living for herself and a little bit for Adam and I think that says a lot.
Also, I know it said 34 hours (I realised that as I was reading it the first time), but I assumed that it was a general time-frame. Like when you have a bad day and you say 'I've just had the shittest 24 hours' even though it's only actually been, say 16 hours. Y'know?
Also, I extremely doubt that James and Lily will kiss later on that same day, as we know that James and Carlotta will be together for a little while longer, and I can't honestly believe that James would carry on with Carlotta if he and Lily had kissed. The only reason he is with her is 'cos he doesn't think he has a shot with Lily, and if they kiss, it's not possible for him to not realise that she likes him.
I think that the kiss will happen at the end of the year, as well. Because the teaser said 'In 1976, Lily Evans would kiss James Potter. Or was it the other way around?' and the wording implies that it is just one kiss in the whole of 1976. And the only reason I can think for that is that it happens at the very end of the year ... even on New Year's Eve. (But then, maybe they do kiss multiple times, but 'In 1976, Lily Evans and James Potter snogged on multiple occasions' doesn't have quite the same ring to it...)

Haha, I still think it would be Lathe because Donna is sooo in-your-face when it comes to things that she can control (aka, Charlie Plex), but Lathe isn't someone she can control and love is not an emotion that she can handle, so I think that if she did feel something, the first thing she would want to do is hide it. Where Lathe is slightly more easy-going/not as much of a control freak. The only thing that would hold him back would be the age difference I think.

You know what I thought about the whole "He's dead" thing? I think I remember that in the dream, Lily was looking for someone to tell them something important (am I crazy? I think that's what it is...), and everybody was saying "He's dead". I interpreted it as she was trying to find James to tell him that she likes him, but he's dating Carlotta -- in effect, "he's dead" because he's unavailable. Does that make sense? I should probably read the dream thing again. :) --Bug
But, things that are super dramatic make my life (lol). The mysterious person in the prologue, with his wand pointed at James tells him "She doesn't love you" and James believes him.

Interesting, Bree...you may be onto something--I especially liked this interpretation of Lily "standing at the threshold of a room wondering if this would ever work" because I always read that as her having doubts about her and James's relationship, but it would be like Jules to try and throw us off like that ;)

As for what inspires Reg/Mary... well, I think him pursuing Lily definitely has merit. Mary was unhappy to hear he had a crush on her.

Yeah, Underbabe! I just said that. I understand spoken and written Italian and Portuguese because they are very close to Spanish. French is similar to Spanish is grammar and verb conjugation more than anything.
Ahh I'm not there yet with the portuguese but the only reason I ever took up spanish was because I used to be fluent in italian and it used be ridiculously like spanish. x's in portuguese just throww me off :\

I'm gonna put my theory, wich must be wrong, but anyways. The Prologue is set two years after the talk that James and Lily had, so that means that they are out of Howgarts and dating, if Jules continues J.K storyline. So i guess that maybe James told Lily that he loves her and she couldn't deal with it and they broke up and that could explain this: "James allowed the words to stab him, knowing they must be true. He allowed the pain to fill but not subdue him. He nodded. “Maybe,” he replied at length. “But that’s just something I’m going to have to deal with for myself.” My money is on Luke and i'm not sure about the start of the chapter 28, i'm gonna read everything again and come back.

I'm fairly certain that implies Carlotta as well. I'd also like to say that he could be building up to tell Lily about his relationship, but he really, really doesn't want to. He might be about to say it, and then let Head Boy slip out instead, because it would be easier to tell her about that.

BUT!!! The beginning of chapter 28:

When I first read that excerpt from chapter 29, I assumed it was what was going through James head during the conversation when Lily is getting ready. Of course, it could easily occur at another point in the chapter, Idk. BUT if it IS the same conversation, then, well, James chickens out of telling Lily about Carlotta. So I don't think he will tell her about that.
My theory: Before James can get around to telling Lily about Carlotta, someone else (Sirius, or maybe one of Lily's friends overhear something) beats him to it. So when James DOES tell her/when she sees them at the platform, James is looking for her reaction, but she already knows so is prepared to act unbothered.
I don't know why I think this. I think I may have read something similar somewhere else earlier? Or maybe a dream?
Anyhoo, yeah, I hate Carlotta. I hope Shelley slaps her. Or someone does her some bodily harm.
Regarding whether or not to ask for an update: for the most part, I don't mind a little nagging or asking when I'm going to post; sometimes it's motivational and sometimes it's stressful, and there's no way of consistently telling which it will be, unless you're me.
Asking and/or pestering for updates is largely valid, so long as there's no expectation that I will then automatically update the next day. And, it should be acknowledged, some requests may come across as pushier than others, and that might spark controversy with others. But, on the whole, a little badgering can be useful.
^ And very helpful. Taking that into account: Jules, when can we expect the next chapter? And I most certainly am not expecting it tomorrow, I just want a general time-frame. I really want to stop haunting this blog :/
@ Nia - I totally agree with you. Plus Jules said awhile ago that a scene between Lily and James had been changed to Lily and another character. Maybe it's the scene where she finds out about James and Carlotta. Plus with how much James likes Lily, and how much he's worrying about telling her, I can't see him being the one to tell her. I feel like he'll just keep putting it off. I do hope Sirius is the one to tell her. Because I adore scenes between the two of them :) -Jenn
So I told Lindsay M this already but I went to my college's gym and I swear that the perfect human incarnation of James was there. He had the build and the face and even the unruly wild hair. I could not however get a pic to post because it would have been to obvious :(. But it made me instantly think LAT when I saw him.
^ I have never ever seen someone close to the James in my head. A lot of people say Gaspard Ulliel, and sometimes I think maybe, but by and large, he's too classically handsome for the James in my head.
BUT, I became aware of this actress called Elena Satine just a few weeks ago (Christmas day actually; she was in the new 'Murder on the Orient Express' remake), and she is the closest thing to the Lily in my head. She's not *quite* it, as her face is a tad too long, and she doesn't (seem to) have any freckles, but otherwise she is remarkably close. And she is quite easily the most beautiful red-head that I've ever seen.

Doesn't her hair look absolutely gorgeous in the second pic? If my mum ever lets me dye my hair/soon as I'm old enough to ignore my mum, I am going to dye it that colour.

I just watched "Nowhere Boy", a biopic where he acts as Lennon and he's just absolutely completely awesomely perfect ! (okay I tend to express myself with lots of exclamatives and over excited vocabular which doesn't even mean anything when I'm talking about a new crush so don't panic pleease ;) )
So yeah..just thought I HAD to share this with you guys it would be cruel not to let you know about Aaron Johnson(for the ones who didn't already know him) Can't wait for the update Jules ! I hope you're not sick anymore :( And I'm relieved I'm not the only one who haunts this page far too much as proven by the comments .. x)
Maybe James tells Sirius that he'll tell Lily about the Carlotta thing, chickens out, and Sirius will mention it to Lily thinking that she knows about Carlotta. Did that make sense?

@ Al: Karen Gillan is exactly (and I literally mean EXACTLY) how I imagine Ginny. Although I think Ginny is supposed to be short? (Ok, maybe not 'exactly' then, but still...) And, while Karen looks like a funky and quirky person (seriously, the first pic I saw of her was over a year ago when she was first revealed as the new companion, she was pouting and sort of squinting her eyes, and I automatically thought that she looks funky and stuff), I imagine Lily to have a more sophisticated and classic beauty-type look to her.
And, yeah, I think Elena Satine is prettier. But I think everyone sees things differently, no?
As for Aaron Johnson... eh, maybe. It never actually occured to me before, but not still quite how I see James in my head. (Lol the James in my head is so specific that a real life version probably doesn't even exist.)
@ Jenny/giver of awesome ideas: Nah, I don't post any of my pics online... they are purely for mine and my friends enjoyment. The main reason I don't post fanart online is cos so often I'll start something and never finish :/ And I kind of feel really self-conscious showing my drawings, whether it's fanart or serious stuff (seriously, it's even a pain showing my art homework to my art teacher lol), to people.
And I defintely won't be showing my new Elena!Lily pics to anyone, especially as she is so ridiculously beautiful that I probably won't be able to do her justice. But I'm still happy and excited! :D
And I agree with you about Karen Gillan. She's got the cute thing going on, but I also imagine Lily to be more classically beatiful. Which is why I was so excited to discover Elena Satine :D

I know everyone is going to hate me for asking this, I can't believe I'm actually about to say it, and Jules will probably find it ridiculous, but Jules, can you hold off on updating for a week? You know, until Friday? I have finals this week, and so much to do, it's insane. But I find that coming here to find out about LaT and talk to Harry Potter fans is the best way I can procrastinate; LaT is kind of eating up my life (I just recently re-read the whole thing), and that's my own fault, but it would be so nice to know that it won't be here to distract me. I have serious (or Sirius, haha) ADD. And of course, I want the next chapter as much as anyone else, but it would really be so bad for me this week. Life and Times is just too good; I wouldn't be able to resist reading the new chapter (probably twice) instead of studying and doing my work. If waiting 'til Friday just for me is too ridiculous for you, then at least don't update before Tuesday? Please?
ReplyDelete^ LOL! I know how that feels... It's always impossible to resist when one of your fave fanfics gets updated around exam time or just before a coursework deadline. I remember one of Pinky Brown's stories got updated literally the day before an exam... but I read it anyway (and if you're familiar with Pinky Brown's stuff, then you know that she writes long chapters :D), and stayed up til late that night reading it, even though I had planned to go to bed early.

AFTER she finds out about J/C and is overcome with insane jealousy. OR on New Years Eve, which is technically 1976 but we have to wait until the very very end of it. Haha.

ReplyDeleteHonestly it would be really stupid if Marlene gets onto the quidditch team because then that would mean that of the seven players, five are from the same year. I think talent would be a bit more spread out than just concentrated in the same year.

ReplyDeleteAlso, I know it said 34 hours (I realised that as I was reading it the first time), but I assumed that it was a general time-frame. Like when you have a bad day and you say 'I've just had the shittest 24 hours' even though it's only actually been, say 16 hours. Y'know?
Also, I extremely doubt that James and Lily will kiss later on that same day, as we know that James and Carlotta will be together for a little while longer, and I can't honestly believe that James would carry on with Carlotta if he and Lily had kissed. The only reason he is with her is 'cos he doesn't think he has a shot with Lily, and if they kiss, it's not possible for him to not realise that she likes him.
I think that the kiss will happen at the end of the year, as well. Because the teaser said 'In 1976, Lily Evans would kiss James Potter. Or was it the other way around?' and the wording implies that it is just one kiss in the whole of 1976. And the only reason I can think for that is that it happens at the very end of the year ... even on New Year's Eve. (But then, maybe they do kiss multiple times, but 'In 1976, Lily Evans and James Potter snogged on multiple occasions' doesn't have quite the same ring to it...)

Haha, I still think it would be Lathe because Donna is sooo in-your-face when it comes to things that she can control (aka, Charlie Plex), but Lathe isn't someone she can control and love is not an emotion that she can handle, so I think that if she did feel something, the first thing she would want to do is hide it. Where Lathe is slightly more easy-going/not as much of a control freak. The only thing that would hold him back would be the age difference I think.

Obviously I never think about these kind of things…. I really hope Sirius dances with Lily and they have a great time so James gets all jealous and dances with her and that is how she ends up in his arms…. Yeah that would be awesome.

ReplyDeleteI think I remember that in the dream, Lily was looking for someone to tell them something important (am I crazy? I think that's what it is...), and everybody was saying "He's dead". I interpreted it as she was trying to find James to tell him that she likes him, but he's dating Carlotta -- in effect, "he's dead" because he's unavailable.
Does that make sense? I should probably read the dream thing again. :)

ReplyDeleteAlso - yes, I think the dream thing is to do with the prologue. Around that time. Lily was sure Sirius would be angry, Reg is sorry (for Lily's loss) etc - defo something to do with James being in danger. I am quite sure that the prologue happens when Lily and James are already together/have been together but maybe split up briefly (James doesn't think Lily loves him).
Either way, I can't fucking wait.
I am dying for the next chapter. Please update soon, Jules. (And before anyone tells me to chill (ha-ha was just reading previous thread - fucking hilarious), I don't mean to pressure, only to encourage :])

ReplyDeleteInteresting, Bree...you may be onto something--I especially liked this interpretation of Lily "standing at the threshold of a room wondering if this would ever work" because I always read that as her having doubts about her and James's relationship, but it would be like Jules to try and throw us off like that ;)

I just can't see Reg doing something bad ass to get her attention. Perhaps he helps her through a break up, or some sort of existential crisis, and she falls in love, etc, etc.

Mais l'espagnol et le français provenant de la même langue (latine) et c'est pourquoi elles sont appelées langues romantiques. La seule raison pour laquelle j'ai appris le français parce qu'il était semblable à l'espagnol. Mais finalement, l'apprentissage de nouvelles langues est toujours une bonne chose, peu importe la langue est.

ReplyDeleteThe Prologue is set two years after the talk that James and Lily had, so that means that they are out of Howgarts and dating, if Jules continues J.K storyline. So i guess that maybe James told Lily that he loves her and she couldn't deal with it and they broke up and that could explain this: "James allowed the words to stab him, knowing they must be true. He allowed the pain to fill but not subdue him. He nodded. “Maybe,” he replied at length. “But that’s just something I’m going to have to deal with for myself.”
My money is on Luke and i'm not sure about the start of the chapter 28, i'm gonna read everything again and come back.
Oh my. There's so much in this story! I can't remember a lot of this because I've only read it once. Now I really wanna read LAT again... but i'm in the middle of reading Haggis from Algernon! These are the big decisions of my life.

I'm fairly certain that implies Carlotta as well. I'd also like to say that he could be building up to tell Lily about his relationship, but he really, really doesn't want to. He might be about to say it, and then let Head Boy slip out instead, because it would be easier to tell her about that.

Definitely talking about The Carlotta Probelm there.
BUT!!! The beginning of chapter 28:
"For a few moments, James hesitated. When he did speak, he had that look about him, as though he had wanted to say one thing and ended up saying another: "I guess to say thank-you.""
When I first read that excerpt from chapter 29, I assumed it was what was going through James head during the conversation when Lily is getting ready. Of course, it could easily occur at another point in the chapter, Idk. BUT if it IS the same conversation, then, well, James chickens out of telling Lily about Carlotta. So I don't think he will tell her about that.
My theory: Before James can get around to telling Lily about Carlotta, someone else (Sirius, or maybe one of Lily's friends overhear something) beats him to it. So when James DOES tell her/when she sees them at the platform, James is looking for her reaction, but she already knows so is prepared to act unbothered.
I don't know why I think this. I think I may have read something similar somewhere else earlier? Or maybe a dream?
Anyhoo, yeah, I hate Carlotta. I hope Shelley slaps her. Or someone does her some bodily harm.

ReplyDeleteRegarding whether or not to ask for an update: for the most part, I don't mind a little nagging or asking when I'm going to post; sometimes it's motivational and sometimes it's stressful, and there's no way of consistently telling which it will be, unless you're me.
ReplyDeleteAsking and/or pestering for updates is largely valid, so long as there's no expectation that I will then automatically update the next day. And, it should be acknowledged, some requests may come across as pushier than others, and that might spark controversy with others. But, on the whole, a little badgering can be useful.

He had the build and the face and even the unruly wild hair. I could not however get a pic to post because it would have been to obvious :(. But it made me instantly think LAT when I saw him.

ReplyDeleteBUT, I became aware of this actress called Elena Satine just a few weeks ago (Christmas day actually; she was in the new 'Murder on the Orient Express' remake), and she is the closest thing to the Lily in my head. She's not *quite* it, as her face is a tad too long, and she doesn't (seem to) have any freckles, but otherwise she is remarkably close. And she is quite easily the most beautiful red-head that I've ever seen.

@ Al: Karen Gillan is exactly (and I literally mean EXACTLY) how I imagine Ginny. Although I think Ginny is supposed to be short? (Ok, maybe not 'exactly' then, but still...) And, while Karen looks like a funky and quirky person (seriously, the first pic I saw of her was over a year ago when she was first revealed as the new companion, she was pouting and sort of squinting her eyes, and I automatically thought that she looks funky and stuff), I imagine Lily to have a more sophisticated and classic beauty-type look to her.
And, yeah, I think Elena Satine is prettier. But I think everyone sees things differently, no?

The main reason I don't post fanart online is cos so often I'll start something and never finish :/ And I kind of feel really self-conscious showing my drawings, whether it's fanart or serious stuff (seriously, it's even a pain showing my art homework to my art teacher lol), to people.
ReplyDeleteAnd I defintely won't be showing my new Elena!Lily pics to anyone, especially as she is so ridiculously beautiful that I probably won't be able to do her justice. But I'm still happy and excited! :D
And I agree with you about Karen Gillan. She's got the cute thing going on, but I also imagine Lily to be more classically beatiful. Which is why I was so excited to discover Elena Satine :D
@ Al: Haha I never thought of Karen Gillan as innocent or angelic; more like a cheeky monkey :p And come on, the first time we ever see her, remember what she is wearing? Lol.
And (I just checked) Elena Satine is only 23 - same age as Karen.
