Will Jules draw Lily? Or James?
My James renderings never live up to my expectations, but there's some fabulous fanart out there for him already =). For instance... here! (Always been a fan of this artist too) As far as my stuff goes, Lily's drawn, but she gets posted last... I think besides Lily, there are three pictures left to be posted that have already been done--Prudence Bloody Daly, Clancy Goshawk, and Shelley. Clancy has not been formally introduced into the fic yet (possibly referenced once), but (YEAR 7 SPOILERS) she's gonna be in a weird love triangle involving a male OC with whom you are already familiar and a Marauder. So it would be pointless to post her before her introduction. Shelley will go up with Chapter 30, and Prudence will follow, and then Lily. It's all so systematic. Oh, and I have a rough Adam sketch, who doesn't fit into the series of TLAT heroines (or she-villains, depending on your POV), but I might throw that up if/when I get around to cleaning it up a little.
How long/many chapters will the story be?
I don't have an exact number. I have a fairly accurate guess, but I don't want to SAY... Idk why, I just feel like it will diminish my enthusiasm to finalize. But, I have accurate, fairly detailed outlines through Chapter 45, which--as of this moment--is almost almost the end. It's just a little before the EPIC CLIMACTIC SCENES!!!!!!! But I don't like talking about THE END, so I won't =). Fun fact that will be all but meaningless to you is that, as of NOW, according to my outline document (fabulously and originally saved on my computer as "document1"), Chapter 45 is named (YEAR 7 SPOILER) "The Third Letter." Oh, snap. Of course, that's subject to change. For example, Chapter 27 was called "The Head Girl" since I wrote the outline (circa Chapter 10), before it received a change-of-focus-and-title pretty near the end (now, "Land of Dreams").
"Carlotta, seriously? Could you sink no lower?"
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
No, I kid, I kid. Loves ya =D
Where the heck is Sev?
Chillin' out, maxin,' relaxin all cool and shootin' some b-ball outside... I have no idea what I'm on. Apparently, I can't write the word "chillin" without immediately going the "Fresh Prince" route. ANYWAY, he's a busy little bee, and we see him again once the school year starts.
What's your average page count?
A fucking lot. And you're definitely right about the increase. At the beginning, they were around 25... these days I'm lucky if I'm under 50. Chapter 27 was only 52; Chapters 26 and 23 are the longest, I believe, with around 67 pages.
And that finishes up the questions.
To the One Whose Name is Also Jules,
Cool stuff! Lol, I have no dish with the East Coast! I'm going there next month! Woot! But I'm going to Florida, so that hardly counts (I feel like as long as I'm traveling in January, I shouldn't be going to the OTHER place with no snow gosh darn it. However, my adorable niece is in Florida, so it will be fun). I have not explored the East Coast nearly as much as I want to, though... I've only really been to NJ and NY, and I really, really wanna go to Massachusetts. That being said, agree to disagree--the West Coast is my baby.
SO jealous you live in Europe! Near Transylvania, no less! Although, if we're talking Eastern European vampires, my mind goes straight to "Dracula" rather than "Twilight."
Anyways, I'm done for now. Have a lovely Tuesday!
Cheers,
Jules
I'm pretty sure I checked this page right after it went up.... anyways. At first I thought your first question said Jules, Lily or James? as in which is your favorite character. And now I am curious.... but I can't wait to see your other drawings.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to know how many chapters because someone told me that for their fic once and I felt really sad reading the last 5 chapters because I was like "there are only 4 left... only 3..." ect.
I think the Sev/Lily scene when he finds out that LJ are dating and/or Lily likes James will be EPIC! So I can't wait for that.
You do have long chapters but honestly after finishing 67 pages all I want to do is read more! Time and pages fly when you feel like you are in the story.
Happy Tuesday and Good Luck with Exams!!!
Burdge-bug is my favorite ever! All of her stuff is so inspiring. I can't wait to see your next drawings!!
ReplyDelete"the third letter"
ReplyDeletedid i completely miss the first two or have they not been mentioned yet? (other than in lily's dream)
Lol, no, you haven't missed anything.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read chillin and the buisness about the FRESH PRINCE I started singing, no lie! Just went off: ..YO HOMES SMELL YOU LATER!
ReplyDeleteIntense, I tell yeh.
Super excited for the next update which should be.. soon? I'm guessing? Yeh? SWEET.
That artist is pretty amazing. I let out a couple 13-yr-old-sees-Justin-Bieber screams when I saw her J.L stuff. It was that Darn Adorable.
Happy Tuesday!
-Charlie
I had a dream you updated lol
ReplyDelete'CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!' <--- Loved that! Lol. Reminded me of Barney, who I adore <33
ReplyDeleteThe Fresh Prince bit did make me laugh.
And as for the chpater lengths getting bigger, I have rather mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, shorter chapters would mean quicker updates, but then... they'd be shorter. And, you know, less and stuff.
And less Life and Times = bad.
^Anonymous--definitely thought of Barney too!! Love that show. And Neil Patrick Harris. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhich actually brings me to a question I've been meaning to ask you, Jules. Have you seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog? B/c when I was re-reading the chapter about Snape (15? ish?), and got some total Dr. Horrible-Snape parallels (which I'd already sort of thought of when I saw Dr. Horrible the first time, anyway...). So, just wondering ;)
Also, loved the Fresh Prince reference.
Ooh, I love burdge-bug! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the chapter estimation depressed me... Until I reminded myself that your chapters are beautifully long.
@Lindsay,
ReplyDeleteLily or James? Um... both. Also Sirius.
@bree,
ME TOO! WEIRD! I dreamed that I posted the chapter unfinished and then flipped the hell out.
@silver_thunderbird
Well, there's gonna be more than 45. 45 is just to where I have an outline drawn, but there's a fair bit more that comes after that.
@Kelsey,
LOVE Barney, LOVE NPH, LOVE Dr. Horrible. But, I mostly love Dr. Horrible because of the music, NPH, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day. The thing is, I find the whole "Villain-Is-The-Hero" that female humanities majors (love them as I do =D) everywhere swoon over (aka, "Phantom of the Opera Syndrome") to be a little overused these days. Which is one of the many reasons why, while I sympathize with Snape, I am a Lily/James shipper at heart <3
Oh, no, I wasn't trying to say that Snape should end up with Lily, because nothing can stop my L/J ship from sailing ;)
ReplyDeleteLol, no I didn't think you were--I just feel the need to explain the death out of everything I say =P. And I didn't want anyone to think that my love for Dr. Horrible carried over to any great affection for Snape =)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I more just meant that the whole "I will win over the girl I love by becoming powerful but that path inadvertently leads to her death" thing was what struck me as similar for the two of them. But obviously NPH is WAAAAAY more amazing than Snape. Though possibly tied with Alan Rickman.... ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's my total Remus mode, but how about you draw him instead of Lily or James? Most of the fanart I've seen of him is way... how to put this delicately? "lame" keeps springing to mind.
ReplyDeleteSo, judging by your rough estimate of length, LAT can be safely categorized as an Epic?
Lol, but hopefully not of the "In a Nutshell" variety =P
ReplyDeleteI have to read that again, it's so ridiculously funny.
ReplyDeleteLOL that is weird. I dreamed I got the email notification for the update, but when I clicked on the link, the chapter was gone. Maybe you had removed it because it was unfinished? How did our dreams combine?
ReplyDeleteI N C E P T I O N
When are you updating? :D
ReplyDeleteWoaaah 50ish pages is a lot. AND there are 27 chapters (so far) which would make it the size of two novels..? Thanks for WRITING. Your story is and EPIC :D
ReplyDeleteUnderbabe
@bree--if this is Inception, it is SERIOUSLY lacking in Joseph Gordon-Levitt
ReplyDeleteAmen to that. There's not nearly enough JGL or Tom Hardy to make me feel better about waking up.
ReplyDelete:(
ReplyDeleteI was out of the country up until three days ago, so I only read the latest chapter today... and I'm so upset. As I was going to sleep (jetlag, you know), I was thinking about it and working myself into more and more of a depression. Because your James is quite possibly my favourite ever James I've ever read in any fanfiction ever. ... And now he's done this? I'm so upset.
Thing is, he's supposed to really like (and he mentioned love at one point, didn't he?) Lily, and now they have become friends and surely now his feelings should be stronger than ever... but then he gets together with Carlotta? It's made his feelings for Lily seem so fickle and irrelevant if his head has been turned by spending a bit of time with a pretty girl. I thought he cared for Lily more than that.
My faith in James has been deeply shaken by this. I'm so upset.
Nah, he still loves Lily. He said he was hung up on someone to Carlotta, anyways. But now he thinks that Lily will really never like him back, and, I mean, you can't just expect James to never go out with anyone because he loves Lily.. I mean, what if Lily never develops feeling for him? Should he just be single all his life?
ReplyDeleteAnd I understand that going out with someone when you really love someone else might not be fair to the person you're going out with... But he told Carlotta that he loves someone else. And she said the same thing to him. So there's no lying going around here :)
I think it's fine. It just sucks that he's doing this right when Lily is realizing she likes James.
Yeah, James will get an opportunity to sort of speak his piece in the next chapter, and I think he does a pretty good job of defending himself... even if neither I nor Sirius are particularly won over ;-)
ReplyDeleteGod, I can't wait for the next chapter. I want to know how Lily finds out! I have a feeling I'll need to have the popcorn ready for this.
ReplyDeleteYes. But anyone would consider becoming friends with the person you are in love with as porgress, no?
ReplyDeleteAnd almost KISSING the person you are in love with - that's most definitely progress, if a few months ago she didn't even like you.
I mean he liked her the entire time she was going out with Luke. The quaffle/snitch analogy came about while she was still with Luke (didn't James durn down some girl, Martha I believe her name was, at the toadies because of the quaffle/snitch thing?). If James wasn't going out with anyone else because of his feelings for Lily while she wasn't even available, why has he gotten himself a girlfriend when Lily is now single, friends with him, and almost kissed him?
You have no idea how badly I wish I could jump into the story and give James a proper telling-off.
And I'm just slightly curious about one thing: what exactly is James'/your definition of a slag? Now, I'm not the sort who likes calling other women derogatory things because of sexual promiscuity; I mean, you wouldn't think like that about a man who has the same number of sexual partners, would you? (Excepting Reg, of course, who has no problem with calling guys tarts.)
ReplyDeleteBUT... if someone who sleeps with other girls' boyfriends (and occasionally tries to steal them) repeatedly and without feeling the slightest bit of guilt isn't a slag, then what is? I know that it's not all down to her - it's just as much, if not more the guys' faults, but she must be quite immoral to not even care, right?
So really, while I was reading that 'You're not a slag' conversation, I was quite confused. Still am. SO I thought I'd ask: what makes a slag?
(And, yes, Donna did do the same thing - so if Carlotta should be called names, then so should Donna. But the difference is that Donna DID feel bad, and won't repeat the mistake. (At least I hope so.))
But the fact of the matter is, Lily DIDN'T kiss James. She pulled back, and James took that as the ultimate rejection. So he doesn't see almost kissing as getting closer to actually being in a relationship with Lily, he sees it as the final answer he's been waiting for. As in, he believes that Lily will never feel the same way he does. So, even though I absolutely DETEST the idea of Carlotta and James, I can see James' point of view, even if it is kind of irrational.
ReplyDelete^ I agree with all of that.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I hope to GOD C/J don't sleep together. IDK why but I don't think I can tolerate the idea. If they do I hope it's not in the story or it's not referenced to. It's silly of me but I think I would cry :'(
ReplyDelete*
^ I also agree with that.
ReplyDeleteThe mere thought of them...Ugh...I can't even...
ditto...BUT I think it would be hilarious to see Sirius/Remus/PETER (would be my fav) to walk in on them about to... we'll see how it goes I guess. I JUST WANNA READ THESE NEXT FEW CHAPTERS!!!!!!!!!!! I have been locked in my house all day and need a pick me up
ReplyDeleteDAMMIT, LILY. WHY COULDN'T YOU JUST KISS HIM AND SAVE US SHIPPERS ALL THIS GRIEF?!
ReplyDeleteI want a time to look forward to, update date? Please? You don't have to update (I would love that) just tell me when?
ReplyDeletei kinda want c/j to sleep together.
ReplyDeletemostly cuz i don't like whipped men. especially since james has been in love for YEARS. (well more than one year, at any rate.)
i think it would be a much worse story if james pines and pines and pines, while lily sees other guys (luke) and pulls away from kissing him. and then when she decides she wants him, he's there and ready.
just like the adam/marlene thing. it would be really pathetic, imo, if adam kept pining and as soon as marlene realised she loved him, they get together.
the girl should lose to guy temporarily to "win" him. i don't think the same person should do all the chasing.
and carlotta is sirius in a dress. so she's kind of his (almost-cuz-she's-not-lily) perfect romantic match.
just my two cents.
I think that if James and Carlotta were to sleep together, I'd have to shoot a puppy. A really cute puppy. And I like puppies. A lot. So, I really hope it won't come to that >_<
ReplyDeleteHIDE THE PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh shit.
ReplyDeleteYES :D
ReplyDeleteNOOOO! poor Lily! but i admit, I do see one pro to this relationship: seeing Lily's reaction when she finds out :)
ReplyDeleteMerde!
ReplyDeleteJules' comment can only mean one thing...
i can deal with the c/j sleeping together thing. just no puppy massacres. i love puppies... especially my puppy. so all i'm really trying to say is UPDATE SOON, because that would make me really happy. even just your blog. but preferably LAT
ReplyDeleteI love puppies, too, which is why it will hurt me more than it will hurt them.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't serious about the puppy shooting, I swear.
ReplyDeleteBut, oh fuck.
I am not looking forward to that part of the story =(
I wasn't serious either. In fact, I've calmed down. There's a new Misfits for me to watch so I am in a good mood :D
ReplyDeletehaha i am watching misfits right now :)that new kid is crazy!
ReplyDeletei am never eating dairy products again... just in case.
ReplyDeleteOmg I know. Or win a Mother Teresa award and stand too close to it D:
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they sleep together, about time James got some.
ReplyDelete:D
Lily is going to shit bricks, it'll be fantastic.
PS PLEASE UPDATE SOON!!
ReplyDeleteJames.
ReplyDeleteCarlotta.
Sleeping together.
MY HEART IS IN PIECES RIGHT NOW.
GIVE ME THE PUPPIES.
(Letter Three)
ReplyDeleteLily had her second strangest dream that week on Friday morning. In it, she was attending one of the Slug Club parties, wearing a silver dress that had not fit her since fifth year. She moved through a crowd of nondescript faces, struggling against an invisible force that thickened the air and made movement difficult.
Music played, echoing separately from the chatter of the party, but it was not the sort that Slughorn would usually pick. There was no band; rather, a melancholy, vaguely jazzy tune sounded out. No one danced, but everyone—indeed, everything in the hall—seemed to sway.
Lily stopped when she reached Sirius Black, who stood in the corner of the room—the room, which was no longer Slughorn's chambers, but the Entrance Hall at Hogwarts. The two of them were now alone, but the music continued.
There was something that Lily felt she needed to say to Sirius—something she was desperate to tell him, but couldn't. She knew that when she told him, he would be furious—he would never speak to her again. Even now, he seemed to guess. His expression was grim.
"I'm so sorry," he apologized, but Sirius's eyes were directed away from Lily, over her shoulder. Lily turned instinctively to see what her friend looked at, but he was staring at the empty space across the hall. Lily turned back to Sirius, but he was no longer Sirius. Reginald Cattermole stood in his place. "So sorry," Reginald repeated.
Lily frowned. "What are you talking about?"
"He's dead," said Reginald. At first, Lily thought he meant Sirius, but something corrected itself in her brain, and she knew whom he meant.
"No, he's not. He'll wake up," the witch heard herself reply.
"He's dead," insisted Reginald.
"No, he's not. He can't be."
"I'm so sorry," repeated the Hufflepuff, but there was little emotion in his voice. "So sorry."
"Stop saying that!"
"The letter. Read the letter. You know who wrote it."
"I didn't know," Lily argued, panicking. "How could I have known?"
"He's dead."
"No!"
Lily's own shout seemed to jerk her from slumber, and she woke in her own bedroom, sitting up quickly and still feeling vaguely uneasy. She had no idea why this was—indeed, she hadn't even known what made her feel so desperate in the dream itself—and breathed deeply several times to calm herself.
"Lily," called her mother's voice then called from the other side of the bedroom door. "Please tell me that you're awake. Your friend is here!"
^^^ from the last chapter (27)
I think this the third letter. of which you speak above and Lily having a little premonition. Because I don't think you would just name this dream the 3rd letter just because she was the 3rd one to get her Hogwarts letter. I think that is there to throw us off the trail.... :) Just a thought.
Lindsay! I've been thinking about that dream, too. Didn't Jules say somewhere that there was a chapter called The Third Letter? Like Ch45 or something?
ReplyDeleteHi- I'm new on this... but i love love your story and have been following it since the very beginning. i pledge to be a better reviewer from here on out. So excited for this next chapter- I'm currently in finals mode and it would be a lovely reward for all of my studying to have a chapter to look forward to after my last exam tomorrow. About the whole J/C controversy.. I hate to say it because i truly believe that james and lily are perfect for each other... but I think it's a great development in the story. I kind of hate when James is portrayed as pining away for lily for 7 long years while she dates whoever she pleases and never worries about how it will affect him. The truth is, lily has given james no indication whatsoever that her feelings for him will ever change and you can't blame a guy for seizing the opportunity when a beautiful girl (who he likes to talk to)is interested in dating him. James is such a bold, dynamic and charismatic character that I just don't see him sitting home drawing hearts around Lily's name in his notebooks.. he will go on dates and he will do things that normal teenagers do because as has been previously stated he is NOT edward cullen ;-) sorry for the rant... who knew it was possible to be so passionate about literary characters haha...
ReplyDeleteas always beautiful chapter and please update soon! - jen
