Questions 12/6

Lily, in a pretty accurate manifestation of how she appears in my brain.

(source)

So, anyways, question-answering time:

Will Carlotta be listed as "in a relationship" by Chapter 30?
Yes. She will be listed as "in a relationship" through chapter... oh, wait, there's no way I'm giving that away.

Is Shelley in Italy?
Negatory.

When are you updating, bitch?
End of this week? Maybe? Possibly?

  1. Wow, Lily looks kinda... vampy. But in a really pretty way. I think it's all the smoky make up that's throwing me off here.

So, basically what you're saying is, you've got no clue when you're updating?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Lol, I considered her more wry, but maybe it is a vampy look, idk.

And I'm not saying I don't have ANY idea.... I'm saying if I'm a good little girl and write at even a decent pace, I should be posting by the end of the week. If I am a wretch, then it will be longer.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yeah, I can see her as Lily. A lot of people also use Karen Gillan when they make L/J graphics. Funny, I was just going to ask who you picture as each character.

"Will Carlotta be listed as 'in a relationship' by Chapter 30?" This made me think of my best friend's saying, "It ain't official until it's Facebook official." And now I'm picturing everyone having a Facebook, LOL.

    Don't mind me.

  4. Speaking of accurate manifestations of characters, there was this guy who sat down beside me who looked strangely familiar. I realized that it's wasn't because I know him, or even that I've talked to him... it's that he looks exactly how I imagine Charlie Plex. Wacky. It probably wouldn't have taken much to convince me that he's a complete git, either, but since I'll probably never see him again, nor know anyone who will, I guess I'll just have to hope that he's not. :P
    Love and much craziness,

  5. @Bree, Karen Gillan is like, a short leap away from Lily in my mind. She's especially close when she's all annoyed looking =). Certainly serviceable for graphics, given her career proximity to the lovely Matt Smith.

    @Bug--that is epic.

  6. Hahaha, I love how you depict all of us asking you when the update is coming. We don't mean it like that I promise.... except MAYBE that one time that you didn't post for months. but thats it. So if that is how you think we feel, I promise it is more like begging mom to read one chapter of harry potter before you go to bed. We just don't want to put your story down.

I do like your depiction of Lily, she is a little bit darker than most people's version of her. That Lily looks like she doesn't take shit. As opposed to dances in fields of rainbows and sunshine.

Btw... you have now more updates this month than any of your previous months :) cookies for you

  8. Strange, but Karen Gillan's actually started to grow on me. God help me, I even like Matt Smith now. Not as much as David Tennant, but he's got a certain charm, and fezzes really are cool. Oh, stop me, I may talk about the dynamic duo + the incredible Rory forever...

    ReplyDelete
  9. OH my God, "Fezzes are cool" KILLS ME! Actually, every single part of that scene kills me--the mop, the popping in and out... Matt Smith did an excellent job of winning over a great number of people who did not want to be won over =)

  10. She's so pretty! :) The Lily in my imagination looks like this. I don't know her, I only got pictures off tumblr.

  11. "What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?"

*laughs like maniac* I really did NOT like that woman when they first introduced her, but after that scene and the "You defaced the oldest face of stone in history?" "You wouldn't answer your phone!" scene I pretty much loved Cleopat- er, River.

  12. Cariza, those pictures are lovely.

I feel like I should start watching Dr. Who now. It's on the list of shows my friend is making me watch right up there with Skins and Misfits.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You should watch Dr. Who.

GOSHALASDKGJALSKFDJALKSDFJLAKSJALSDJFALKS STOP READING YOUR EMAIL UPDATES AND GET WRITING, JULES!

    Okimdonenow.

  14. I will!

And aww, Jules is leaving. I'm always late to the party.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oooh, I like the picture you posted Jules. She does look quite Lily-like, though I picture Lily's hair as being lighter and her eyes brighter. Hehe, that rhymed.

Can't wait for an update. Defs take your time though :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. OMG, Jules you like Dr Who? I love you even more now!

And that's not really how I imagine Lily... I imagine a young Lindsay Lohan (you know... before she turned all skanky). In fact, when I was dragged to watch Mean Girls by my stupid friends, the first thing I thought when it started was 'OMG that's Lily!' Shame she had to turn all crazy...

    ReplyDelete
  17. ^ I agree with that. A little bit. It never actually occurred to me before, though.

I'm currently leaning towards Alexina Graham, who is absoloutely wonderful and gorgeous or Cintia Dicker (...when she's weraing clothes, that is. And when she's not sunburnt).

As for Karen Gillan, I think she would have been the perfect Ginny. I don't like the actress who plays Ginny at all, and I think Karen would have done a fantastic job of it, not to mention that she's also about the right age for the role... Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @last poster.
Karen Gillan would be pretty perfect for Ginny. I actually have no problem with the actress playing her--I definitely thinks she looks good for the part, and so I must marvel at the luck of the casting department, in that they cast this little girl for SS and she turned out so beautiful. But she's kinda stiff, and it's such a shame, because she seems perfectly adorable in every interview I've ever seen her in. I feel like directing might be at fault... I don't know, is it just me, or does it seem like The Powers that Be who have made the last few movies really HATE Ginny? They cut her role, give her some truly mediocre lines... even the camera angle for the kiss in DH was really awkward. It pisses me off.

I have this idea of the screenwriter and/or director as a troubled Harry/Hermione shipper, who only sticks to the book with regards to Harry/Ginny in the most minimal sense lol. For instance, I LOVED the Harry-Hermione bonding to Nick Cave in the tent, but could they really not spare a ten second shot of Harry checking on Ginny with the Marauders' Map?

Eh, this turned into a really long rant. I'm sorry. I have strong feelings on things. =)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wow, now that I think about it... it does kind of seem like the director is a Harry/Hermione fan.... hmmm....

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh, they've totally shipped H/Hr from the beginning. And it is annoying. Also, I agree with you Jules, that Bonnie Wright seems so awesome in interviews and so...blah on screen. Lame.

I think that I also need to watch Dr. Who now. Since I did not understand half the posts on here. Or maybe I just need to stop being a blog stalker. But what fun would that be?

@Bree's first comment: Definitely thought of fbook too. "Not official until it's facebook official"? Totally a thing ;)

P.S. Who is that in the picture, Jules?
P.P.S. It's a good depiction of Lily, btw

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lol! That's actually the first time I've thought of it like that. I just assumed that the director, being a guy, was absolute shite with writing/portraying romance... (I mean 'I'll tie your shoelaces for you, Harry'... what's UP with that?!) Lol, and watching that little dance scene that you refer to, even though I had read the book (dozens of times, in fact), and knew that nothing ever happens between them, I found myself actually wondering 'Are they going to- No, surely not! But, maybe...' And now it all makes sense: David Yates is a Harry/Hermione shipper!

And as for Bonnie Wright - it's not her looks that I have a problem with. Although I don't think her pretty (and my cousin would have a fit if he heard her being described as beautiful), my problem is that she's very wooden. She really can't act, and her and Daniel Radcliffe are completely lacking in chemistry. And Ginny is supposed to be a strong and feisty character, but in the movies she just comes out rather boring and a pit passive. And this is me getting really, really picky now, but Bonnie's chin moves a lot sometimes when she's speaking, and that really gets on my nerves.

...And, there's my twenty reasons for why Karen Gillan should have been cast as Ginny (even though, for all I know, she didn't even audition)... Hope I didn't offend you with my anti-Bonnie-ness!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lol, I'm not offended. I think she's really cute, but I agree-- she seems super wooden. Still, I have no idea of whether or not that is an indication of her acting talent. For instance--Leo DiCaprio. Good actor, I think. But in "Titanic" (no matter what sentimental attachment anyone/me might have for it) his acting is.... um... being generous, let's say, not very good in that movie. And I think it's because the director is beyond overrated.

So, idk if Bonnie just can't act, or if she's not getting the direction/material that would benefit her. Actually, no matter who was playing with her, the dialogue she's given is STILL completely out of sync with book!Ginny.

NOW, ALL of that being said, the first time I saw an interview with Karen Gillan, I thought; "OMG, it's Ginny!" I think a better actress than Bonnie could have done something with the minimal/bland material, but honestly, I don't blame HER for departing from book!Ginny. I blame the writer. SIGH. I want Steve Kloves' job.

    ReplyDelete
  23. oh, and the pic is Cristiana Capotondi.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, I totally agree with you about the script. In the movies, the Harry/Ginny romance came across a bit odd, so it would have been difficult to do anything with it - even the wonderful Karen Gillan wouldn't have been able to make those lines sound anything but bizarre.

BUT... I've got to say that it wasn't a far step down from the book. Now I absolute worship JKR and I owe many happy hours of my life to her, but the romance in HBP was just... I don't even know how to describe it. I cringe whenever I think of the 'monster in Harry's chest'. *shudder*

There is a reason that there are so many Ginny haters out there... and I think it may be to do with her portrayal in HBP... and Bonnie really couldn't work with what she was given, whether it was the characterisation from the book, or those God-awful lines. And you would be a better screenwriter than Steve Kloves. Any day.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm not gonna Lie I was never a Ginny/Harry fan. I always thought a) he would marry a muggle (because it would a great slap in Voldy's face and because any witch would just see him as Harry Freakin' Potter) b) he would be the hero that never fell in love kinda like Frodo. c)Luna :) but they are better as friends.

I just never liked Ginny that much as a character.

    ReplyDelete
  26. There's definitely something Mary-Sue-ish about Ginny. No doubt about it. Luna/Harry would have been good, if Luna had been introduced earlier in the series and if I didn't LOVE Neville/Luna (the fact that this didn't happen gets me really pissed).

And I love JKR too, but I feel like she sort of forgot to write Harry/Ginny. Like, she felt like she had a bunch of time, and then got to HBP and was like "Shit... I forgot to do that." I genuinely liked Ginny in OotP book, but I feel like she should have been like that earlier--circa GoF, maybe. Then, there would have been more time to develop her, and HBP wouldn't have seemed so forced.

Personally, I always wanted Harry to die--that sounds awful... I LOVE HARRY. HARRY IS MY CHILDHOOD! But he's kind of like a best friend for millions of people, and he's someone that I am never going to think anyone is good enough for. Hermione WOULD have worked in that she was around long enough, but Ron/Hermione is destiny, and book!Harry/Hermione had too good a friendship and no romantic bond (movie Harry/Hermione is a different story, but, since DH book, I was finally committed to R/Hr for it's own sake, rather than just because I knew it was gonna happen). I'm glad Harry lived, though, and I think he HAD to end up with Ginny, in that for anyone else to have been introduced for him, they would have to be even MORE Mary-Sue-ish.

I think the fanfiction/fanart Harry/Ginny tries to do what JKR didn't get around to: make Ginny a better character, and make them work as a couple. There's so much about her that I feel like we were supposed to assume but that is not on paper, so there's a lot that authors can do with that ship.

Ultimately, though, I like Harry/Ginny because that's the way it goes. I am a major shipper for just about every fandom, but Harry's relationships were never the point of HP for me. I preferred to care about James/Lily or, later on, Ron/Hermione as far as shipping goes, although, the story/action/magic/coughSiriuscough was always more of my concern for the HP series than the romance.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I get what you're saying about the script. I generally think that Steve Kloves did a good job, but the Harry/Ginny stuff was awkward... maybe he was drunk when he was writing HBP? Cos it's not just the Harry/Ginny stuff that was weird, but Ron/Lavender as well.

However, I don't think that the script was entirely to blame; I think Bonnie Wright didn't really get Ginny's chracter in the first place: I read somewhere once that Bonnie had described Ginny as mousey... when anyone who had read the book (or the last few any how) would know that "mousey" is the wrong word to describe Ginny. This sorta made me wonder if she had even read the books? Really, you have no chance of playing a part well if you don't have a good grasp on the character.

As for looks, I do think also that she is very pretty, but only outside of the films. In the films, she looks rather plain.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh and I totally agree - Ginny was a Mary-Sue, and she had very little depth.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, Ginny's supposed to be "mousy" through... IDK, what? Prisoner of Azkaban? And even then, she's only really supposed to be "shy," not so much "mousy."
But even still, if an actor isn't "getting" their role, it's the DIRECTORS job to walk her through.
And she's much prettier outside the movies, definitely. But again--not her fault. Lol, I don't know when I turned into such a Bonnie!advocate... I think I'm inclined to defend Ginny because my best-HarryPotter-friend is a major Harry/Hermione shipper... and not just a Harry/Hermione shipper, but a Ron-hater, and, by extension, ALL-WEASLEYS-EXCEPT-FRED hater. That's right... she doesn't even like George all that much.... though God only knows how that's possible.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Although, watching DH with her was possibly the funniest thing ever, as she was forced to admit that Ron looked really fucking hot. I think she was almost reconciled to Ron/Hermione by that movie. =)

    ReplyDelete
  31. But, can we all at least agree that Harry/Cho is bad? =P

    ReplyDelete
  32. ..as long as we're on the topic of HP movies, I'd just like to say the OotP completely Sucked.
Because a five second flashback to Snape was so.. you might as well just bitch slap Alan Rickman in the face.

And no, Ginny Weasley does not get enough props. She was my hero from like 9yrs onward.
    -Charlie

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jules- Yeah, Harry/Cho annoyed my life. Bad is an understatement.

I read somewhere that Cho married an "unnamed Muggle" though. LOL.

Charlie- What really pissed me of about OoTP is that they cut Lily out of that flashback! Grrrr. I was ready to Hulk Smash in the theater.

    ReplyDelete
  34. PSH: I know right? And the actor that played James. WHO THE HELL CAST HIM? Honestly, that man was just.. not my beautiful James, that who he was :-))
They should-a cast Scott Moir. Now I would have been happy with that. And Tessa Virtue could-a even been Lily.
Man, I need to move to Hollywood.

    ReplyDelete
  35. HOW COULD YOU HATE THE WEASLEYS?!?!?!?! Ron was my fav character for a long time--even though he's sort of an ass/clueless sometimes...but really, who isn't?

On the Harry/Ginny thing, I sort of agree with...oh, well, I don't remember who said it, and I'm too lazy to look, but whoever thought Harry would end up alone like Frodo. When his infatuation w/Ginny was intro'd in HBP, I was sort of like...what? Usually I'm pretty perceptive when it comes to relationships in books (haha SOOO not in real life!! but I totally called Lupin/Tonks the minute we met her in OotP...wow, this is making me sound pretentious; not my intention), but H/G threw me for a loop. However, as others have said, if Harry was going to end up with anyone, I suppose it had to be Ginny. And yes, Harry/Cho was just...no.

@Charlie: I'm assuming the five second flashback you're talking about is the OWLs-Snape-calls-Lily-a-mudblood scene, and yes, SADLY underrepresented in that movie. I was so pissed. Because the POINT was NOT James's teasing so much as the Lily/Snape thing. Maybe they'll redo it and have the full one in DH pt.2?? *smiles hopefully*

    ReplyDelete
  36. ^ I too was unbelievably PISSED when they cut Lily out of Snape's Worst Memory! One of the most important scenes of the entire series, in my opinion. I thought they would have given Daniel Radcliffe brown contacts and have him play James. Oh well :(

As for part 2 of Deathly Hallows... It would be awesome if they re-did the scene, but I'm pretty sure they'll just replay it, and this time add in Lily's part.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @charlieschulz
I totally agree with you! I would have been very happy if Scott Moir had been cast as James... are you by chance Canadian? lol

    - PinkCamellia (though I used to be known as Star.Shinee)

    ReplyDelete
  38. All of you wonderful Doctor Who fans, I love you.

I, too, wish Harry could have been a Frodo (meaning without a love interest), and I, too, would have enjoyed seeing Harry and Luna get together (but completely understand why they didn't). Though I never particularly liked Ginny/Harry, I never had anything against it. I guess I was just and a bad fan and never questioned cannon pairings.

I was disgusted by the 4th and 5th movies. I hope to God they elaborate Snape's Worst Memory in DH part 2.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @PinkCamellia: YES! I am most DEF a Canadian, and yes, I most DEF watched Scott Moir win gold!
    Attractive AND an ice dancer!
    :-))

And yeh, they best be putting it back into DH 2.
Oh - I heard that the movie isn't coming out on DVD until NEXT Xmas, with the part deux.
What the h-e-double-hockey-sticks is that about? It will ruin my whole HPmoviemarathonbeforepartTWO...

    -Charlie

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Charlie: I've got the same dilemna with the marathon. I suppose we'll just have to suffer, because while I like the idea of selling them together My life is all "WTF?" without my Harry Potter. You know what they really need to do for Pt2? Recap.

    "Previously on Harry Potter..."

So handy. So convenient. There's a reason TV shows do it nearly every week.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So, kind of transitioning back a couple topics...watched the first episode of Dr. Who (er, I guess of the new series...thing). I think I'm hooked already ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Kelsey, where did you watch it? I couldn't find it online (unfortunately, I am not a Hufflepuff).

    ReplyDelete
  43. Netflix watch instantly...though I might also recommend surfthechannel.com--my usual go-to for online TV.

Okay, took me EMBARRASSINGLY long to get the Hufflepuff comment. Good thing I figured it out before I asked you about it. FIND! haha. What the hell is a Hufflepuff, anyway? (poor Hufflepuffs, always the ridiculed ones)

And nvm, it's not on surfthechannel. Sigh. Fail--sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ah! I have Netflix! Thank you!

Haha, it was my fault. People usually write "find" all in caps when they make that reference. And yeah, poor Hufflepuffs. I find it hilarious that Sam in TLAT was sorted into Hufflepuff and his family was so ashamed, they brought him home.

I would have been the same with Slytherin. I mean, I wouldn't have LEFT but I would have hated life in there.
