Did Carlotta's name come from "The Little Mermaid?"
Sadly, no. She was originally "Marcia," because I wanted to give her a trendy 1970s name that was vaguely Italian, but there were too many "Mar" names in that dormitory. I settled on Carlotta, because it's kind of a mysterious name... I don't know "mysterious" is the right word, but I was inspired by the dead lady in Hitchcock's "Vertigo" who is supposedly possessing Kim Novak.
Will Lily find out about James/Carlotta in the next chapter?
James will definitely tell Lily one of the two big developments that occurred in Chapter 27.
Will there be a big Carlotta/Lily smackdown?!?!
There will be lots of metaphorical hair-pulling, but Lily will try to steer clear of it. Her loyalties are going to be very confused for several chapters, though. That being said, Chapter 31 is called "Carlotta Delenda Est," for any History geeks (or ancient Latin speakers) who might be able to explain that =).
Is Sarah McKinnon the Sarah that James lost it to?
Negatory. Different Sarah. Sarah Meyer.... not that that name has any meaning to you, because Sarah Meyer plays no role in TLAT, though her whole life is planned out in my head =P. Sarah McKinnnon, on the other hand, will have significance later on.... circa Chapter 34.
Who is the Ravenclaw prefect for that year?
That is a GOOD question. There is a reason I just put "the Ravenclaw prefect" in Chapter 28. Because I didn't want to go look up whether or not I put him in the story yet. I have a chart that says that "Martin Shakeworth" is the prefect, but I might have introduced someone else in the actual story. Eventually, I will have to research this further, but I'm procrastinating.

Super very excited for metaphoric hair-pulling. I have a feeling that Carlotta's going to be all sorts of petty when it comes to the Lily and James dynamic. I don't even mind her that much, but if she gets mean to Lily I might change my opinion.

^ I actually really, really liked Carlotta before she got together with James. She was probably my favoutrite OC in the story. Actually, she was probably my favourite character entirely, bar Sirius and Lily; she was certainly the most interesting. But ever since 27 (atcually was it 23 when we found out that Carlotta and James would be spending some of summer together? - I think I sort of guessed it then), I've absolutely hated her.

I genuinely don't get what James was thinking. Even now, now that we've read that James 'explanation'. It still confuses me.
Is it just physical attraction? Is he just really attracted to Carlotta? 'Cos I can't imagine him being more attracted to her than he is to Lily.
Hmm.
But either way, totally eager for Lily/Carlotta smackdown. Totally want Lily to kick Carlotta's butt. Shame it's metaphorical, though.
Also eager to see Shelley's reaction. And even more eager to see Mary and Marlene's reaction - I'm sure they'll have a few bitchy comments to make.
By the way, Sirius was on top form in this chapter. My absolute fave. *Sigh* Something really has to be done about my crush on him.
(I feel hesitant to say this, as you have made your feelings about Sirius/OC quite clear, but am I the only Sirius/Donna shipper? I'm usually against this as well, but I've noticed that they have a cute dynamic... Is it just me?)

My lit teacher in high school spoke a whole bunch of languages, and sometimes he would just speak to us in random ones and expect us to understand. The German ones were easiest to understand, because if you say something loud enough in German, your message gets across =P

-So you Lily knows the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor guy prefects didn't get it but what about the hufflepuff or did she just write him off completely? not that it really matters but I was just wondering because you don't mention that many hufflepuffs (cept Reg)... then again they ARE hufflepuffs(sorry kim if you read this). I mean Sam's parents pulled him out for being a hufflepuff. (my friends like to call them jigglypuffs)
-I just got one of my good friends to read LAT and I got a text from her today "I didn't know this story was going to make me cry" she just read when James got mad at Sirius and Mrs. Potter came to Hogwarts to try and help. I was with my best friend who also reads LAT (and calls me a stalker for how much I talk on this blog...) and then we all geeked out for a bit.
- Adam. I want him and Prudence bloody Daly to break up. I think that Adam/Marlene might just get together before James/Lily... or they will be way way later because Marlene won't get the nerve up to tell him. We'll see.
-Reg/Mary is going to be AMAZING. I can see that being a James/Lily mission after they get together and Reg realizes he and Lily are just a silly fantasy. And Mary realizes she really likes him.
-Carlotta must be destroyed. And I can't wait. I really want to know who's plan this is Shelley's? Mary/Marlene? Mauraders? LILY??? JAMES :) Or Crazy mixture... It'll be epic no matter what.
-Speaking of Shelley. I hope James does something nice for her when he realizes what happened. And I also want Shelley to have a 'Even though' moment where she realizes that she needs someone perfect for her.... I am listening to too many Starkid songs right now... Jeeze. but yeah I just hope Shelley ends up happy.

Y'know, I totally get the Adam/Marlene boring thing. There's lots of pining going on. Which is why 7th year will be less pining-y for both of them... I really feel like they both just need to get some action.
ReplyDelete@Lindsay, there's a deleted scene in Chapter 28 where Lily asks Benjy Fenwick (Hufflepuff prefect) if he got Head Boy, but it didn't flow with the chapter. It'll be brought up again in Chapter 29, though.

ReplyDeleteI think James' reaction will be... interesting when he finds out that Shelley fancied him and Carlotta started things with him anyway. Because James is all about loyalty and such, and I don't think even he will be able to make excuses for Carlotta when he finds out what she did.
How will he be able to argue that she's not a slag then, hm? THAT will be interesting.
Also Mary/Reg. That will also be very interesting.
And I can't wait to find out whose wedding Lily will go to... I don't think it's Alice/Frank as the teaser thing was that Alice gets ENGAGED, not married. But then, who can it be? Argh, so confused! And excited!
What is James' plan going to be? (My mind automatically went to something dirty.) I would be sooo angry at you for ending it there if you didn't promise an update so soon. In which case I can wait. But argh the wait!

@ Lindsay: Yes, when it said that Lily attended two weddings, I automatically thought of Alice, and then in the beginning of this chapter James said Lily had a role in the wedding so I though 'OH, definitely Alice, then' ... and there really is no-one else close to be getting married is there? But then, argh the teaser is confuisng me.

One of the witches was named Carlotta. I thought maybe that's why you chose Carolotta's name but clearly I was wrong- haha.

But thing is Lily definitely attends two weddings over the summer, and there's not an awful lot of time left of the summer holidays for another wedding to happen. And also, why else would she need flowers? Not a funeral or she wouldn't be dressing like that heh.
