Non-Spoilers

So, here are some non-spoilers for Chapter 29, especially for Sam, who requested them.

Basically, non-spoilers are things that are in Chapter 29 that are true, but don't actually spoil anything.

Lily is wearing purple nail varnish.

Frank and Alice will boil water for tea

James will NOT die (despite Lily's previously spoiled threats)

Something happens with a desk and a door.

Music for the chapter:

"Fire and Rain" by James Taylor (title song)
"Stand by Me" by Ben E. King (also John Lennon)
"Drumming Song" by Florence + the Machine
          "Atmosphere" by Joy Division

Other stuff I put on the Chapter 29 playlist:

"Ceremony" by Radiohead (Joy Division/New Order Cover)
                "Precious Stone" by Pete Yorn
almost the entire Sigh No More album by Mumford and Sons

  1. Woo I love 'Drumming Song' and can see how it couldd apply to James. Especially after reading the little excerpt.. And Frank and Alice boil WATER for tea?! You've gone and spoiled it all again.

  2. LOL! Thank you, this is precisely what I wanted :) I especially like the one with the desk and the door (... even though at first I thought it was an innuendo :p ). Can't wait to see what that's all about. AND THE TEA! Exciting stuff! ;)

    Many thanks,

    Sam

  4. ATMOSPHERE by JOY DIVISION?!?! And a cover of CEREMONY by RADIOHEAD?!?! Have I mentioned in the past few days that I fucking LOVE you???? I Joy Division is the best. Therefore, this will be my favorite chapter. It's simple logic.

  5. Drumming Song! I love that song :)
So these bolded, big words are driving me crazy. I really want them to mean something significant, but no matter what I do I can't find anything important in tea or door. I guess I wouldn't be a very good Hufflepuff.

  6. Frank and Alice will boil water for tea after having PG sex on a desk; Lily will paint her nails while waiting for James to NOT die as both of them are tied to a door/run into a door? (not really sure about this one, but I remember Lily mentioning something about bruises on her wrists/arms "from that sodding door" in ch. 28...yes, I did just have to go look it up to get the quote exactly right ;))

    There. My predictions ;)

  7. off topic but... where do people shag at hogwarts aside from broom closets?

  8. Off the top of my head: empty classroom, behind the bleachers in the Quidditch field, the dungeons, the Room of Requirement, the Astronomy Tower, the guy's dormitory.

  9. @Sara: haha, "Hufflepuffs are particularly good finders!"
"What the HELL is a Hufflepuff?"

..Ben.E.King is my favourite name ever. Cause it SOUNDSLIKE Benny, but really it's.. well yeh.
I am superdupermegafoxyawesomehot excited for the next chapter. And those Alice/James shippers, I can sort of see it. They are both kind of adorable, so together they'd be reallyadorable. Lily though, especially in this story, is kickass though.
Oh weirdest thing: not only is their a kid who looks exactly like Harry Potter at my school ((glasses, green eyes, Gryffindor scarf, black hair, the whole nine yards)) but there's this couple that always makes me laugh.
She has: hazel eyes, dark hair, and is a drama kid.
He has: red hair, green eyes, glasses, and is always listening to music.

I think it's the funniest thing to see a Lily/James in real life, that sort of.. ISN'T BUT IS, y'know?

    HAPPY DECEMBER 27TH!

  10. I hope it's Lily's PG-rated sex dream. Though that's quite unlikely, since she doesn't get any sleep... Perhaps a daydream? GONE REAL?!
    Okay. That was a bit far-fetched. :(

  11. hahaha what if it's James' James/Lily sex dream. Because Lily won't sleep in the 36 hours right?

  12. Ooooh, yes, and then he realizes that he still loves Lily and he goes up to her and is like, "I LOVE YOU" and she's like "I LOVE YOU TOO" and then they get married and make Harry! Right? RIGHT???
I think I need to read some Lily/James fluff right now.

  13. @bree- lol thanks for answering. i guess they all found a way and a place ha ha

on a different note, i was lurking previous posts and a lot of people on here have read commentarius so i decided to check it out. i read the first chapter and i don't mean any disrespect but...does it get better? because so far it's a major let-down (again, no offense. just my opinion). it sorta reminds me of "in a nutshell"

    ReplyDelete
  14. @anonymous YES it definitely gets better. Stick with it. Soon you'll be obsessed with it and stalking Bee (the author) on her blog. Or maybe that's just me...

  15. @sara- okay i'll keep reading. i'm really particular about my l/j fan fiction and like i said before it reminded me of all the things mentioned in "in a nutshell"

plus the writing style (modeled after meg cabot right?) isn't doing anything for me. but i will give it another shot.

  16. It does get better. I wasn't feeling the first chapter either but for some reason I kept reading and now I love it. Maybe just read the dialogue for the first few chapters til the story picks up, that's what I did and I swear it gets better.

  17. @anonymous
okay, I was totally there without on the whole "Commentarius" thing. I was like, wtf, people like this? I can't get into it. But then I read more. And now I'm obsessed. So as an actual convert, I can say yes, it does get better.
Whoever told me that gets a double fudge cookie, by the way.

  18. GASP Yes I totally agree! The writing style is a total pain. Whenever I reread the story, I skip the first few chapters, because they're just... headachey. I mean, so many capitals. But, believe it or not, the writing style will stop bothering you. I think it becomes less Meg Cabot-y and more... what it is.

You will probably find the first few chapters annoying and average at best, but TRUST me that by the last few chapters you will really like it. And don't worry, Lily will become less annoying.

And as for the In A Nutshell similarities: I understand that Bee feels the same way about Jules when it comes to Sirius/OC and Remus/OC so no need to worry there either. And you will come to really like all the OCs that crop up in the story - Grace included, who, in case you are wondering, is not remotely MarySue-ish.

I'm also an extremely fussy reader. Just now I clicked away from a story because the author keeps getting 'their' and 'there' mixed up. And also, James' pants keep getting mentioned, when CLEARLY it should be 'trousers'. And in another story I was reading quite recently, Sirius was acting like a hyper-active seven year old (why does this happen? I don't understand), so I stopped reading even though otherwise the story seemed quite good.

My point: if Commentarius can pass through my rigorous screening process, then so it can with yours too.

Don't give up! I promise you, you'll like it.

  19. Just reinforcing that commentarius gets much better. I've just finished rereading it for the 3rd time and yeah when you compare the early chapters to the later chapters the difference is pretty astounding. The James in commentarius is amazing, you will fall so in love with him. And Grace is hilarious. Don't give up on it!

  20. Hmm does it bother anyone that Slughorn isn't the potions professor in Commentarius? I don't like reading fan fics written before the 6th book or even much before the 7th book (yes, I'm that picky). And why does everyone always make Lily bad at Transfiguration? lol I don't mind it but was it ever mentioned that Lily wasn't that great at it?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lol. I think the reason that Lily is/was so often bad at transfiguration was because we know that James is good at it... and I dunno, so he can tutor her? It's full of the typical L/J cliches - I'll tell you that right now. But somehow, that doesn't really hold it back.

And you can't really hold it against her that it was started before HBP, cos that's just silly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was never specifically said that she was bad at Transfiguration, but I figure she must have had some talent if she was turning tea cups into rats for her parents/Petunia on her holidays.

I don't mind it to much. It's pretty funny.

  24. Just recommended on one of my stories that ppl read LaT...someone just reviewed on my most recent chapter that she's been 'converted'! HAHA, victory!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jules I just noticed something: you have posted here 29 times this month, which works out to be (pretty much) a post a day =)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Muahaha! I love converting people. I won't STFU about TLAT on Tumblr that people eventually become curious and ask for the link. I told my best friend to read it and that if she hated it, I'd buy her dinner. If she loved it, then she'd buy ME dinner.

  27. I converted 2 of my good friends. I love talking to them about it :) you know who you are

  28. I've had just about the worst day ever, and the rest of the week isn't looking much better. An update on this story before New Years is seriously one of the only things I'm looking forward to before the first. I usually don't start reading fics that aren't finished, but I'm so glad I started this on because it's one of the best I've ever read.
