Fun Facts

So, going into work today, I had this total romantic comedy moment, where I was walking along, minding my own business, before I was viciously attacked by a puddle of mud (not the band--a legit pool of wet dirt). Graceful and elegant as I am, I slipped and twisted my ankle. The coffee I was carrying in my left hand didn't spill a single drop, which is inane, because those stupid Starbucks lids spill all over my hand if I walk kind-of-quickly, but when all five-foot-eight-and-three-quarter inches of me epically stumbles into an abyss of mud like something from youtube or America's Funniest Home Videos, every liquid ounce remains in the cup.

So, I caught myself with the non-coffee-bearing hand, but still ended up half covered in mud, had to go home to change, and was half an hour late to work--though my boss was totally chill and I brought scones, so it's fine.

Why is this a romantic comedy moment? Because slipping in mud is SO something Katherine Heigl would do to meet James Marsden in a Not-Very-Good-I-Totally-Own-the-DVD rom com. And yet, as I ruined (okay, temporarily dirtied) a particularly well assembled outfit of skinny jeans, a red ribbed t-shirt, black peacoat, green scarf, and converse tennis shoes, propelling my ankle into mild discomfort excruciating pain, no attractive, taller-than-me-and-within-a-reasonable-age-bracket guy in a three-piece-suit rushed up to my assistance. Jude Law was noticeably absent. Neither Hugh nor Cary Grant appeared. GERARD BUTLER WAS NO WHERE TO BE SEEN!

I was alone with my bitterness and that fucking coffee.
There was also pidgeon, but even it didn't try to help.

The moral of the story is, do not do things that would get you laid in a romantic comedy, because in real life, they just mean you have to change your outfit, and you're half an hour late to work.
Or, to put it in internet jargon:
Expectations verses Reality

(My expectations veer towards Gun-Toting JGL, because that situation totally called for weaponry, although, other incarnations would be totally acceptable as well)

Now, on to things you care about.

Friday Saturday Fun Facts!
(because I forgot to post on Friday)

1. Protective!Sirius also makes an appearance in Chapter 28.
2. Kingsley, Lathe, and Moody all definitely in Chapter 29.
3. James will be escorting two lovely ladies under the Invisibility Cloak
4. Excerpt:

But she had already drawn her wand. James’s was in hand, too, as were many of the others’, but they all seemed to be waiting for something. Lily saw no need to wait any longer, and so, before James could protest further, she closed her eyes, gripping her wand tightly in her fist, and whispered the word:

“Phoenix.”
Update soon. promise.
Love,
Jules

  1. awww. i think the key might be that you need to take many such falls, thus establishing yourself as an adorable klutz. and then the suave wealthy male will rescue you, relax his uptightness through your repeated interactions, and then reluctantly fall in love.

anyway. ahhhhh. need chapter 28 now.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Ugh, but being the adorable klutz/free spirit of the relationship is so STRESSFUL. Especially since I'm pretty sure it means I'm ethically obliged to contract a fatal illness at a young/still-attractive age.

  3. Can't wait for it.
Would you be able to tell us when we might expect an update?

  4. Mmm, James Marsden. I kinda adore that movie, in the I-need-something-to-watch-while-snuggling-in-my-living-room-with-my-mum sense :-))
I imagine your coffee is trying to tell you something. I can't tell you what, maybe you should go to a psychic or something.
Have you heard the song Midnight Blue by Melissa Manchester? Cause my father just mentioned it to me, and it's reallyrathervery amazing.
    Mud puddles? Holy Helga Hufflepuff-
((Hufflepuff's are particularly good finders! What the HELL is a Hufflepuff?))
-I WISH! All the mud puddles in my glorious city of Toronto are FROZEN. It is too damn cold.

  8. Fuck, I hope the pain goes away soon.

A similar thing happened to me where I tripped and completely ate it in public and this really cute guy helped me stand back up. He was really nice and all but God, I wanted to disappear. I couldn't even look him in the face to thank him properly. So consider yourself lucky (except for the excruciating pain part).

  9. I hope you aren't offended by the pidgeons' lack of assistance. They don't help anyone. Not because they can't, but because they *won't*. Seriously. Pidgeons are super powerful and really smart, but they have this thing where they laugh at people who trip. You can't hear them, but trust me, you can see it in their eyes. They're evil. They're evil genius flying rats. It was the crows in Daphne du Morier's "The Birds" that everyone freaked out about but they should have been worrying about the fucking pidgeons. Pidgeons are monsters!!!

    Hope your ankle mends soon.

  10. So I'm curious. of course everyone here is in love with LAT because it's AMAZING, but what are some other fanfictions you guys like?

  12. I can't wait for the next chapter of Commentarius! I've been refreshing her blog all day :D

    Some of my favorites are
Scribblings of a Red head and a Quidditch Captain by CasablancaInTheTardis
The World as We Knew It by Lady Alinor (Harry and Ginny)
    Crossroads by Emmyjean

  13. I hear wonders about Commentarius. Perhaps I should read it.

All I read are one-shots because I am too impatient to wait for updates. Actually, when I started reading TLAT, I did so under the impression it was a one-shot lol.

My favorite one-shots are those by my good friend SuperSpy on ff.net :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. You should definitely read it! I hate waiting for updates too, but it's all worth it in the end.
And now i shall make a reference to commentarius that only people who have read it would understand: I am deficient in milk and need a balanced diet.
    You know you're curious.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ooo, great topic, Anonymous! I used to read only one-shots as well because I didn't have the patience for long ones, either. Now I read mostly long stories, hehe.
I found this one on Jules's favorites list: The Ring of Gold by KevinVoigt. It's a SUPER good action one and some romance in there too, but it's really really long. It's Harry/Ginny and lots of Hermione, with a really good OC as well, pre-DH. It talks a lot about the veil in the Department of Mysteries.
I think I'll have to try this Commentarius story. As to L/J stories, I LOVE Priori Incantatem by fellytone. Cute romance, and goes really in-depth with the Marauders. It does go all the way to the end of their lives, though, but I love the way it was all explained. The way it's written makes the last bit really moving. (I'm not considering that a spoiler because we all know what happens. WAAAAAA)

  16. Confession time...
Firstly, I've never commented on a blog before, which is shocking being a young adult in the 21st century and all.
Secondly, I've been following your stories for the longest time. I stumbled upon I'll Take It Shaken Not Stirred sometime in '05 and fell in love with it.
Thirdly, I have never once reviewed your stories. I don't really have an excuse for why, mostly cause it just kinda creeps me out talking to people online that I've never met before.
Fourthly... is it just me or does that word sound and look weird?
Fifthly, I promise that I will review every chapter from now on. Because in all fairness I should have been doing it a long time ago.

But why post on your blog now after all this time? In all honesty, it's because you made me laugh with your post after I was having a rather rough day. It's finals weeks for me and I've been studying nonstop for my last two finals on Monday and Tuesday. The most upsetting thing however, is that all my friends are finished school and have arrived and home. So while they enjoy their freedom and frolicking, I'm stuck studying my ass off. So I've been in a less than stellar mood.

Therefore after studying all day in a funk, I checked your blog to see what was up and there was this post. And it completely destroyed my funk! So thanks! And in return I've confessed my creepy stalker habits of you. Seems like a fair exchange :)

Also, I didn't laugh because you fell into a puddle. Because that would be wrong and mean... Mostly I just laughed at the pictures of JGL and the pigeon.

I don't have any stories to contribute guys! I'm sorry! I mostly read one shots because I find them less OOCish

And charlieschulz, I'm in Montreal! So all our mud puddle are ice under mountains of snow. It's so cold here. So I feel your pain!

So now this post has become super super super super long. And I'm pretty sure you'll all just think I'm some rambling lunatic... haha....hmm.

@Bug- Priori Incantatem sounds really interesting. I am going to bookmark this page and look for all those fics when I'm finished watching Skins :) Thanks!

  21. I love Commentarius! One of the best LJ fics I've ever read. Bee is amazing. So I highly recommend it for everyone who haven't read it. Plus, her one shots are well written too so you can check those out as well. :)

@Lindsay: OMG. I love Every Other Midnight, too. Best AU fic ever. And the Boyfriend series by Molly are also good stories.

Other wonderful LJ fics that are a must-read:
Prelude to Destiny by Another Dreamer
Hopelessly Addictive by Christy Corr (though this is unfinished and I don't think she's going to update any time soon. It's worth a read though!)
    Haggis from Algernon by Vea
Buried Treasure and Transmogrify by RienneHawkes
    Kiss and Tell by SunshineDaisies0821

I have more to recommend but those are the ones on top of my favorites list. :)

    -Cariza

  22. HAGGIS FROM ALGERNON IS THE GREATEST THING EVER. :-)) And the Shoebox Project, but you can't really enjoy that if you're not a Remus.Sirius sortof shipper. The J/L in it though is ADORABLY well written.

@Jenn: Man, I can't even imagine Quebec right now! It's probably colder than where I am, so I am just going to send you waves of sympathy through the computer :-))

Kiss&Tell is also awesome. My favourite stuff is by DisorderlyandPunk, Queen Nightingale, Procrastinatorstartingtomorrow, siriuslyklutzy..

They're all on ff. There's also this fic All Over Again, which is REALLYREALLY dramatic and unrealistic, and has somewhat Twilight-symptoms, but is amusing to read.

I also love this story: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5633512/1/Perfect_Match
    AND
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5576651/1/The_Hogwarts_Soft_Core_Erotica_Business

I feel this has been enough knowledge :-))

  23. Does it mean that I read too much fanfiction if I recognise almost every story recommeneded here? Bah I don't care.

My three favourite fics (in no particular order, because it is almost impossible for me to decide) are:
Commentarius by BCDaily (obviously I don't need to explain why)
    Crossroads by Emmyjean
and, OF COURSE Life and Times :) (a very recent addition to this list as I only atarted reading it a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE it)

Everyone here had read Lat obviously, and most have read Commentarius (I personally don't think it's possible for someone to be a complete L/J shipper unless they have read it), but Crossroads doesn't have enough of a mention. Which is a shame, because it is easily the most powerful story I have ever read. (Does 'powerful' make sense in this context? Hm... perhaps you'll understand what I mean when you read it.)

At the time I was reading it I was absolutely blown away by the brilliance of it; the writing the emotion, the characterisations... I have read it more than any other fanfic and I simply can't get tired of it. I would urge everyone who likes swooning over the sexiness and awesomeness of James Potter to read it. It is fabulous. I have got to point out though, that I read it when I was about sixteen, and then when I came back to read it a couple of years later, I realised that the writing wasn't quite as good as I had thought. But don't let that stop you! I guarantee you will be able to overlook the little problems (if a grammar-Nazi like me can, then so can you!) and absolutely love it.

I've also got to mention that it was written preHBP (... actually it was also written pre-OotP but it was revised to fit with the Snape's Worst Memeory scene) so you might think Lily's characterisation is a little off, but it's only because not an awful lot had been revealed about her by the time the story was being written.

    Other stories I recommend:
anything by Oynnej, but especially 'It's My Party'
'Every Other Midnight' by Kathryn's NomDePlume (however, it requires an awful lot of effort to read it and there's so much information that you won't be able to rememebr half the things that happened in the previous chapter, let alone in the beginning of the story)
ProcrastinatorStarting2moro has written the FUNNIEST fics you will ever come across. They are all a bit stupid and nonsensical, but they will have you in stitches.
    'Purely Business' by Zayz
'Buried Treasure and Transmogrify' by RiennaHawkes - to be honest I think this is vastly overrated and not as good as all the hype that surrounds it, but if you like L/J smut, then you can't really go wrong here (unless of course you are unwilling to stomach mention of Lily/Snape stuff, in which case, don't bother)

On another note: Charlie, can you please tell me what it is you like about 'All Over Again'? I read it when I came across it and saw how many reviews it had, but I honestly thought it was the silliest, most immature thing I had read in ages... and the spelling and grammar didn't help either. I was convinved for a while that I must be missing something...

  25. Hi... I've tried on multiple occasions, but I've never gotten past chapter 1 of "Commentarius" even though I've heard so many good things about it. Could someone break down for me why I might like it and what the general theme (not plotline) of the story is? Thanks a bunch.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Nia: I know.. it's reallyreally ridiculous, and ALL the characters are made up perfection. They're ALL beautiful, and funny, and sexy and all this unrealistic crap - yet, I always read the new chapter. I agree, it is quite a silly/immature story.. but I think because of that I read it. Y'know - I read it when I'm bored, when I honestly have nothing better to do with my time. The characters whatsherfaceauthor creates are sort of like.. Actors before they become good. Overreactions, beautiful, stupid/useless plotlines.
I like aspects of her characters though. I like how James is Spanish, I thought that was really cool, and I like how she did create background stories.. but yeh..

It is a load of crap. I agree. But like I said.. it's amusing. I don't take it seriously. I read it as a sortofguiltypleasure, the same way I used to watch Gossip Girl. No particular reason. I figure eventually I'll just stop, like I did with GossipGirlandGlee, because I realize it really isn't all it's made up to be.

    Her editing SUCKS too.

I'm not sure if I actually answered the question. It's very early, and I probably shouldn't be up at all.
I read that mugglestudies story too - it was cute, but took a veryveryvery long time to read :-))
Also: don't know if anyone's a JamesSirius SLASH fan, but I sortof.. enjoy it, quite a bit actually, and there's some great stuff and links of this girl's livejournal:

  27. kneelb4todd: Commentarius was initially based on the Princess Diaries stories, and as such are rather full of immature stuff, and extremely dramatic overreactions (... and you know what, there are still dramatic overreactions); if the story had gone one in that vein, then only teenagers would have been able to read it. But as the story has gone one (and moved away from the Princess Diaries stuff) it has gotten much better, the plot has become more complex, the characters (especially Lily) have become more endearing and less shouty, full of interesting little quirks, and all in all it has become a rather brilliant story. I have started to think that the diary format is holding her back, and it would be better written as a story in 1st person persepctive (you'll see why if you ever start reading it), but it's still pretty damn readable. Just give it a chance. Trust me you won't regret it. (Unless, you know, you'll become like me and start checking her livejournal several times a day to check for an update end cry every time when you don't see one... THEN you might regret reading it.)

Charlie: No, lol, that doesn't really answer my question. You summed up perfectly what I don't like about the story, but gave me nothing about what IS to like. But I see what you mean - guilty pleasures and all of that. There's always a story that you don't particularly like (and sometimes actually hate a little bit) but for some reason you just carry on reading it - for me, that story is 'Kisses on the Balcony' by ByeByeBirdie. I want to shoot myself with every mention of Riley, but I'm still reading the story. And I genuinley don't know why...

Also, if people are looking for fun, fluffy L/J stories, HeyLookTheSnitch has good stuff (esp. Penmanship Smitten).

Those are my three favorite fanfictions ever also!!!! Crossraods was actually one of the first fanfictions I ever read and introduced me to LJ stories. So it's because of Crossroads that I'm even here :D

i find it really interesting that you think the diary format of Commentarius holds the story back though. I personally loved the Princess Diaries series, and found I loved the style of writing at the beginning just as much as I loved the style she uses now. I adore stories that have diary formats. I don't really know why, I just find them hilarious and cute! But that's just my opinion :)

I am very depressed right now. Bee still hasn't updated! Two weeks was yesterday! grrrr.

  30. @kelsey
Oh you must keep reading Commentarius. I just cannot find it possible that someone would not like it (I'm a tad obsessed).

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, I liked the Princess Diaries series at first as well, but near the end of the series I felt I had outgrown it... and same with the beginning of Commentarius - although funny and cute and quirky, the older you get, the more of a headache you get from reading that stuff. It may be why I never got Twilight. I was twenty when I read the first Twilight book and found it painful. Stories can be absolutely brilliant in their own right - but if they're targetted at a specific audience, others just won't get them.

Which is what's so good about Commentarius: it's not so teenagey anymore, so I feel like I can still read it :)

And what I mean about the diary format holding it back is that Lily will be talking about things that happened hours ago and Bee tries to get the drama, emotion etc. from the scene into the diary entry, but doesn't always succeed (if you don't have a clue what I'm going on about, re-read the, um, confrontational scene in chapter 19).

But yes, the diary format, is what makes it what it is. It's good for the humour side of things and getting what's going on in Lily's head the way a 1st person narrative can't... personally I would like to see the story as a mixture of diary format, for the fun and frivolous parts, and 1st/3rd person narrative for the drama. But obviously, that's just a small thing, and I still absolutely adore the story. And yes, it should have been updated yesterday! So painful!

  34. Wow, a lot of my favorite James/Lily fanfics have already been mentioned here!

Crossroads, Every Other Midnight and the Boyfriend Trilogy (As TLAT goes without saying.)

I love everything by 'drowning goldfish'. Especially "*Incriminating Evidence" and "Recuerda Me". I re-read them both quite a bit!

Deflating by bluebottlebutterfly is really good.

Kissing the Enemy by czarina-kathryn is a great laugh! Though, there is a bit of Sirius/OC, it's not excessive, but it bothers me a little.

*Memento Mori by Lexie-H - This is a wonderful, wonderful story. Very beautifully written. Follows James and Lily to a kind of afterlife. It features all our favorite departed characters (Sirius, Remus, Tonks, Dumbledore) and a cameo of Fred.I love how this author dealed with Severus and Peter. I highly, highly recommend it. (Have tissues ready!)

Philologus by P.P.V.V - If you are looking for a good AU, this is a good place to start!

    And some one shots:
    *Leaning by Penciled In
Lily Had a Little Lamb by Liebesbrief
The Hogwarts Soft Core Erotica Business by BadGirlwithsomeRetroSneakers (Very funny and cute)
*The Platform by koonelli - It made me cry.
*Thirteen Shades of Green by arctique48 - One favorite portrayal of Snape and Lily's friendship. Ends with J/L.

I have * all the ones I really, really, really recommend.

Hope you all check some of them out :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh my god you guys, it took me like an hour to read all this.
FIRST OF ALL, and its quite possible that I missed something in skimming all the posts, but there is a shocking lack of EHWIES, who wrote "Through A Glass Darkly" and is fucking amazing.

Second of all, I'm gonna put it all out there right now. I feel incredibly mean naming names of either fanfic or author, so I'm just gonna say, and some of you will understand and some of you will be mercifully spared: Iris Hewson. I have read this fanfic all the way through more than once. And those of you who have read it are probably questioning my sanity. But here's the thing: Iris Hewson may not be real, but she is pretty much the Voldemort of my life. My goal is to NEVER write a character that the character of Iris would like. She is THE Mary-Sue. Her existence offends me, as a woman, an author, and a human being. I cannot emphasize this enough. If I had read that fanfic before writing ITISNS, ITISNS would have been a lot better, because that story and Iris FUCKING Hewson are my go-to for what should never be done.

    NOW, on to EXCELLENT fanfiction:
    Anything by EHWIES.

The Boyfriend Trilogy is AH-mazing, as has been mentioned.

Charmingly-holly is a fabulous author. So funny. "Redundancy" and "Redundancy Revamped" are must-reads. Also lovely: Kooneli, chesirecat, lyin', and I recently read Instant of Insanity's "Tired," which really impressed me. Basically, almost anything in my favorites I'll stand by ("Plans that Only Lead to Dark and Scary Places" may not be the best written fic, but it has parts that literally make me LOL, it has tremendous sentimental value for me, and I don't think I would be writing ff without it).

Unfortunately, I often forget to favorite, so other things I love that have been mentioned:
    "Hogwarts Soft-Core Erotica"
    "Haggis from Algernon"
"Kiss & Tell" (the Sunshinedaisies one, not to be confused with another "Kiss and Tell" that I keep clicking on, thinking is something else, grrrr)
Queen Nightingale and DisorderlyandPunk are both great authors too. And I am often forced to reread the awesome Pantz one-shots of yore, because those are amazing. But I'm fairly certain Pantz is on like everyone's favorites list on the site, so nothing new there.

On the whole "Commentarius" debate-- I haven't read the story in a long time, so I can't really provide too insightful an opinion. But I've generally liked B.C Daily's one-shots (I'm not a big smut fan, but I think she does it tastefully =P).

Lol, great convo guys. So much good fanfiction on here!

OH! AND BREE! I totally read your latest one-shot, which I-am-totally-not-a-bitch-and-am-going-to-review-because-there's-no-way-I-forgot-AHEM. "You Picked Me," guys. Go read it; it's cute =)

  41. ALSO, (God I need to learn to shut up) Jenn! Hello! I meant to say 'hello' in the last post, but got caught up rambling and forgot. So, ramblers and stalkers (so long as they are not legit stalkers standing outside my window) are awesome and welcome, and thanks so much for breaking your blog-commenting rule =P.

oh, and one more thing: any more good Harry/Ginny recommendations? When H/G is good, it is very, very good, and when it is bad, it is horrid.

  42. OH GOD YES: Iris Hewson. UGH. I read that all the way through too. That is THE WORST fic EVER. EVER EVER NEVER EVER. Lord-y. She is just.. while reading In A Nutshell I had that bloody story open in another tab and I just kept comparing it, and YEH. She is just.. ugh!!!

  43. Lol... I've never actually read this story - mostly because it didn't look original or interesting, but obviously I'm aware of it. Having the name of an OC in your summary kind of tells you straight off the bat that the story is full-to-the-brim of a MarySue.

But now you've actually made me curious to read it. All hundred chapters. Hmm... what shall I do?

    ReplyDelete
  44. And it can't be that bad if it got so many reviews?

    ReplyDelete
  45. In a perfect world, that would be true.

    ReplyDelete
  46. haha i can't believe how popular that story is either.
i also hated tears on the balcony. another awful fanfic with too many reviews, imo.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lol! I was just on the author's profile page and guess what (you will never believe it!): at The Sweet Quill awards, Iris Hewson won best original character... Interesting, no?

    ReplyDelete
  48. pllleease post a link to this story i need a good laugh

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah, I can't talk about When the Stars go Blue, but Kisses on the Balcony gave me a flipping headache. And what annoyed me even more was that I left her a review in which I pointed out to her (quite kindly!) all the things that were wrong with Riley, and how to make her more realistic. Not only did the author not respond to my review, but she deleted it. And I left her a few other critical reviews (not flames - just not telling her that her story was 'lyk, the best thing everrrr') just to see what she would do - and she deleted them straight off as well. I thought that was incredibly rude.

  50. 'The Truth of the Heart' by ChildofScorpio... this story (before it got deleted the first time) got, like, a million reviews, and to this day I don't understand why.

    ReplyDelete
  51. it's amazing how some LJ fics are just SO BRILLIANT and some just so bloody terrible. Its so hard sorting through the rubbish for a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have not heard of this "Iris Hewson". I take it that it is a good thing, and shall remain forever ignorant... hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  53. I LOVE that this turned into a warning-about-bad-fics thread! im really curious about the mary sue one now....

someone convince me to try to read Haggis For Algernon again? i tried a couple years ago and i remember thinking it was sorta weird and that the James in it was not right...but everyone seems to love it....

    ReplyDelete
  54. haggis IS weird which is why it's so good. I think it's brilliantly written and the James and Lily in it are adorable and original. Give it another go, it's hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  55. ^ Yes, I agree, it's definitely unique. There is one scene that always has me in stitches: James talking to seduce Lily in french. Ha-ha hilarious!

Anonymous 4:14 - Yes! I didn't get that either. Why on earth was that story so popular? Was it wonderfully written? No. Was the plot super-good and enthrallung? Nada. Were the characterisations really good and original? Nein. Was it oozing with delicious sexual tension? Non. Was there ANYTHING AT ALL godd about it?

But this is the case with many, MANY fanfics the world over, and I suppose us readers who are more discerning will just have to wade through all the shit to come across a good story every now and again. Such is life.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "Haggis" is strange, but I love it. I wouldn't want ALL fanfic!Jameses to be like that, but I feel like it definitely works for that author and story. He's kind of Bertie-Wooster-ish, and I love it. And I adore the relationship with the cat.

I can't find Buried Treasure and Transmogrify'. Was it deleted or do you know where I can find a version. I have read all the other fan fics you guys have recommended already. It was the only unfamiliar one

  60. Heyy guys. :)
It's my first time posting here (I'm sorry, Jules! I'm gonna be honest and admit I'm just incredibly lazy, but I LOVE your stories and I check your blog everyday. Lol don't hate me. ;))
Thank you all so much for the fic links! I've read some of them, but others are new to me. So I'll def try them later!

I've read some really bad fics, but I never came across the Iris Hewson name, I'm must be really lucky. xD

Since everybody is posting their favorite fics, here are mine:
'My Deliverance' by twinsuns09.It's just brilliant. It's my favorite J/L fic, tied with TLAT, so you can imagine how good it is. She takes a lot to update, though. :(
    - 'Exception to the Rule' by hpobsessedrissa, is really great as well. It was my favorite fic crush, lmao. The author also wrote 3 one-shots, which are all amazing, especially 'Searching'.
    - 'Before The Fawn' by andelyn kinsey.
    - Wilhelmina Willoughby's fics.
I think I have more fics, but I can't think of mor right now.

I've never read Commentarius. When I found that fic I was already too tired of fics where Lily writes a diary.. I wish that had been my first Lilyiswrittingonherdiary fic, because everybody loves it. But it's just not my type of fic. :/
I've read Every Other Midnight, but then I got tired. I love her James, and her Sirius (when he replaces James as a teacher? My favorite parts, lol!), but ugh, her Lily pisses me off so much. I hate how she's perfect at everything, so perfect, that she managed to be a animagus as well. THAT'S A MARAUDERS THING. LOL, I'm sorry if I sound crazy, but it bothers me so much how Mary Sue her Lily can be. Because everything is around Lily, and even Sirius and Remus seem to trust her more than they trust James. Sorry if this offends anyone, I know that story has a LOT of fans. I love Kat's writting, I just hate her Lily. xD

And wow, I better stop writting, because this is getting huge.
Just to finish, I'm sorry if my post has some gramatical errors, English is not my first language, and I'm kinda sleepy right now. :P

    -Catia

  61. HEY! Welcome! I totally forgot about "Before the Fawn." It's really good! And I liked the style WW's "Quiet Summer" a lot, too.

Thanks for posting and goodnight ;-)

  62. @Daniella: hey bestfriend. I have yet to make it through to the end - actually, So I have no idea what you're talking about ;-)) Umbridge PISSES me off through the whole play, so I'm sortof hesitant to finish it up. But I will, JUST FOR YOU :-))
Oh hey - started watching the extremely overrated Glee again, JUST to see Darren Criss!! Yeh for Charlie!!

@Nia: I have pondered this (('are you pondering what I'm pondering?' Yeh for PinkyandtheBrain references!)) and come to a conclusion:

    1. Kisses on the Balcony: UGH. That reallyreally is a guiltyguilty pleasure. I despise that, tried to get through the first chapter.. although I've read that wherethestarsgoblue codswallop ((hpwordoftheday!)) so I can't really say much :-))

    2. Also tried to read that Every Other Midnight that everyone keeps mentioning. I got so damn bored. Just could not do it.

    3. I have come to the fact that I read All Over Again because all though I know all these bad things about it, it still makes me wonder HOW it's going to end. I'm constantly caught up in the.. mystery - whodunnit stuff she spews ((SPEW!! ..sorry, HP moment there)) at me. I honestly want to know what the hell's up with James and that spell thing, and why Sirius is so mad, and if Jenny's sleeping with Remus** ((footnote!!)) or is actually a WEREWOLF too, or if.. you see the dilemma. It has caught me, hooklineandsinker. I also adore Henry Potter, James's dad in it, because he is the only person who has real reactions, although what'sherauthorname calls it "being cold and indifferent", I think he's the best created character.

So yes, in conclusion to the conclusion, Darren Criss is supermegafoxyawesomehot.

    Happy Monday!
    -Charlie

**footnote: Remus always will be a beloved character, although I think ff-ers- wait this is not the right conversation. Remus discusion is on the NEXT post, SILLY ME, never mind my HamishXandtheCheesePirates moment!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thanks, Jules! :)

@charlieschulz Aww, I love Darren so much! And I'm way too addicted to Glee, lol. It's embarrassing how much.

    ReplyDelete
  64. @ Catia: I totally get what you mean about Lily! She IS very flawed (dishonest, incredibly selfish, etc.) and yet she has got to be the most MarySue Lily I have ever come across. The animagus thing - yeah, totally pissed me off. And she's just so... urgh 'Woe is me' when all this crap happens around her, when she should know that if she puts herself in the middle of war, that is bound to happen.

But don't think you are the only person who thinks so; a lot of people have complained about it. But I think they have accepted it as something they have to put up with to read the story. ANd you know what, I'd rather read a MarySue Lily than have to put up with a MarySue OC. And I personally think that otherwise the story is great. It has got the most intricate and complicated and connected plot of any L/J story I have ever read.

And about Commentarius - I think you should give it a chance. I know that there are/were a lot of Lily diary fics out there, but I'm quite sure that Commentarius started that fad. And it's really the best one.

@ Charlie: your post really did make me laugh.

I am absolutely ashamed that I read the codswallop that is Kisses on the Balcony. But just so you know, I skip over the Riley parts entirely (which could be several chapters at a time, but I degress); and @ Anonymous reviewer many aeons ago, yes the author is increbily rude; I've also known of her to delete reviews if they are even slightly critical. I think that's the worst kind of writer: gets constructive criticism but TOTALLY ignores it.

Now onto All Over Again. The mystery stuff - I have no idea what you're on about. I remember there being a question mark raised between Lily's friend who is also James' cousin (Jenny, I assume?) and Remus, but I don't remember anything else you're talking about... so the mystery must never have grabbed me lol. Or maybe it did (and I just can't remmeber it; it was many months ago I read it after all), but I wasn't willing to put up with all the crap things about the story to find out.

And your comment about James' dad being regarded as cold when he was the only normal one made me lol. THAT was my main problem with the story. The characters overreacting at everything. Ugh, so annoying. Her James has got to be my least favourite James ever. And her Lily was so wimpy, and Dumbledore (!!!) made James HeadBoy when he did a really horrible and disgusting prank on Lily! Wtf? Who would do that?

I have forgotten a lot of things about the story, and to have a proper rant about it I would need to reread it and read the updated chapters, which is not something I am willing to do. So I will end my rant there. (Unless I remmeber something else stupid about that story.)

    Much love,

    Nia

Now must go on to the next post. If there is Remus-bashing going on, I am needed to defend that wonderful man.

  65. HOLY CRAP. Just found out that When The Stars Go Blue has: waitforit..waitforit:

    3, 970 reviews.

    WHATTHEFUCK?

    ReplyDelete
  66. ^ Simply mind-boggling.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Catia. although this convo seems to be dead.
that's my one complaint about every other midnight. lily is a saint when it comes to all men except james; then she's a bitch. she constantly lies to him and shares things with sirius and remus and snape (wtf) that she keeps from him.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm kind of late with this... but whatever! :)
I'm pretty sure it was Commentarius, unless it was a fic similar to it... but I didn't like it that much. I found that Lily was way too whiny and annoying and out of character, and it kind of ruined the story.

I might be talking about a different story, though, so forgive me if I'm wrong :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. @chubbypotato and Nia - Yayyy! I thought I was one of the few writters who had an issue with her Lily. It really upsets me how Lily is all powerful and how she's such a bad girlfriend to James! She keeps so many stuff from him, ughh. It's a shame, because the story is so good, and there are so many details. That's why I kept reading it. I must be like 5 chapters behind, which is not bad, lol. I don't remember what happened last, though. xD

    ReplyDelete
  70. ... And I'll try to give Commentarius a try. :)

    -Catia

    ReplyDelete
  71. @ Catia @ chubbypotato: defo agree. And trust me Catia, you are far, far from alone. And also, I've read every chapter, but I totally don't remember what happened. I just read every new chapter totally confused wondering what's going on. Hmm... maybe I should suggest to her to have little recaps in the beginning like Jules does?

@ silver_thunderbird: Commentarius Lily does start off really whiny but she gets better. Although she is still quite whiny. But it might not be Commentarius - whiny!Lily is quite common. Regardless, Lily's not even the reason I read Commentarius... can you guess why I do read it?

That's right. James Potter. I can pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with her James: three-quarters of the way through chapter seventeen. You'll know what I mean if you ever get there. Up until that point, I was reading Commentarius just because; I thought it was okay, and there wasn't much else to read. But from 17 onwarsd I've been quite fanatic. Obsessed. So even if you don't like Lily (I still do, despite her whiny-ness and frequent melt-downs), James is totally worth it. He is beastly.

  72. Oh my dearness...I have never before laughed so hard at a blog post. Thank you for letting me know that these things happen to other people besides myself.

Just read chapter 28 and was very impressed with the change of pace. You pulled it off nicely, and it wasn't as out-of-place as you made it sound. Well done.

  74. I absolutely loved I'll Fight For You by Hazelmist.

    1. All Over Again was completely awesome in my opinion, but I keep forgetting what's going on because I don't check if she's updated a lot.

    2. I faved Kisses on the Balcony but I have yet to read one word of it.

    3. I completely and totally agree with charlieschulz Every Other Midnight was something I only want to read because it had a lot of chapters and words and I like long stories. That spell Lily did with the erection was sooooooo stupid and in my opinion she's really, just a general bad in this story. Don't like the character, don't like the attitude, don't like the anything thing, the whole thing was just a general blah and I only read like 5 chapters.

charlieschulz: That totally makes me want to read that story even though i have absolutely no clue what it's about.
