  2. Remusness: fucking love it.

Wish I'd been around for the Enoby/Bella post; I have a lot of issues with... I can't even name names; I'd just go on a few thousand ranty tangents.

  3. Jules (or anyone, really), can you please post a link to where Meyer comapred Bella/Edward to Anne/Gilbert and Lizzie/Darcy?

This is one that references Princess Bride and Pride and Prejudice. Not very good quality. Princess bride talk starts around 3:40.

Here's a Cracked article that covers this pretty well.

  6. It should also be noted that Princess Bride is a satire. Missing the fucking point, much?

  8. StephMeyer really doesn't get it. Love the RPattz quote at the end of the article, though. I had no idea he understood the bad of it all. Then again... why did he ruin my good opinion of him by taking the role in the first place?

    It's an unsolveable conundrum.

  9. @Todd- I think the answer is fairly obvious. MONEY. :)

  10. Off-topic (sorta), but... does anyone else really hate David Thewlis for Remus? I like the actor well enough, but he was just wrong for Remus.

  11. I think the actors for both Sirius and Remus are wrong. Both great actors in their own right, but not my Sirius and Remus ;) For one thing, too old.

  12. Lol, you know, I finally figured out why they made everyone so old. Because the movies take place about ten years later than the books. It seems to me like they maintain some elements of the timeline, but alter others, and that creates some weird differences with ages.

Gary Oldman and David Thewlis are not who I would have cast, but I think they ultimately did well with the parts, and while there are some things that I just can't get over with regards to the movies, surprisingly, the casting of two of my favorite characters is not among them. For whatever reason, it's something I can get over and be philosophical about... unlike certain other changes made in the movies.

  13. I liked Gary Oldman as Sirius, but I couldn't quote get over Remus's mustache.

  14. I'm not sure why I always assumed this, but I kind of figured that the producers just wanted the MWPP ages to be more conventional to current times. Like, an average 13-year old parents' friends these days would generally be fairly older than 35 (I think that's how old R & S were in PoA?) And if they had cast a canon-aged Lily and James for the Mirror of Erised scenes, then (at least for myself haha) it would be like looking at someone my age as Harry's mum and dad..which might've been odd to actually see, even though i love reading about it. Make sense?

  15. @kneelb4todd- I can go on endless rants about everything that is wrong with Twilight, and yet I will still love Rob. I have since he was Cedric and in spite of his role in Twiligh (actually, he was the reason I picked up the books).

I think he was just desperate for a job. He's said it before in interviews.

Regarding everything else, my friend pointed out that they had to make everyone around Alan Rickman's age (since he was the first of that generation to be cast). Made sense to me, lol.

  16. yes 12:54, you make perfect sense to me. I always bring that up. I hated how they cast Lily and James that old bc when they died they were in their veeerry early twenties and that how i think they shouldve appeared- as they were in life. i have contemplated this much...

  17. I think Gary Oldman was brilliant in PoA. He was brilliant at playing someone completely unhinged and... loopy. But in OotP they went in the complete opposite direction, and made him a very steady parental figure. Yes, he was sopposed to be more sane, but they completely took out the rebellious, miserable and insolent streak out of him. So, yeah, I didn't like him so much in OotP, but I guess that was more the writing than the acting.

As for David Thewlis, I don't like him at all either. I've never actually seen him in anything else so I can't say anything about his acting, but as Remus Lupin, he is just wrong.

  20. That is exactly how I picture James... *sigh*

  21. I like Gary Oldman as Sirius. I can understand why he would freak out children in PoA but the actor who played Remus seems wrong. Also, the actors who played Lily and James are far too old, they look more like they are 40 rather than 21. Except for those, credits goes for the amazing casting.
