Just a Few Things

The thing is, in the last week, my entire life got pulled up by the roots, twirled around some Hagrid-sized being's head, and thrown down again on the grass, left to its own devices to re-root and work all the biology shit out all by its lonesome.
BTW, my life is a tree apparently.

Fortunately, I am apparently quite adept at gardening, and I like to think that for the time being, all is mostly as it should be again.
Thank-you for your patience, and I shall endeavor to get this chapter finished as quickly as possible.
If I have been grouchy with anyone around here or on tumblr, I am sorry.

AND, I hope you all enjoyed "Snaps." I don't really know where that came from. I had the idea for Snaps being about James's heart condition (lol, not literally) rather than the delicious treat for some time, but I was walking along and the rest of the story just sort of came to me, so I scribbled it up and posted it, and I am just glad that you liked it.
For those of you who think it's deterring me from writing Chapter 32, however, fear not. I was having a bit of a... well... dry spell (see Lily circa Chapter 19). Going 24 hours without writing anything creative is really unheard of for me, so the fact that I went several days was thoroughly displeasing. But "Snaps" sort of got me in a mode again, and I wrote a bunch over the last two days, so hopefully, I'm back on track.

So on to nicer things: here's some stuff I can tell you about Chapter 32.

Bridget Shacklebolt makes a return.
Marlene and Prudence have a chat.
Donna helps Marlene with something.
Donna, Lily, and--to a lesser degree--Remus have crises of conscience.
James has a touch of insecurity.
Sirius has a touch of angst.
(And yet somehow this is a rather upbeat chapter).
There's a reference to Chapter 24 that made me go "AWWWW" when I wrote it (and puppies rejoiced).
Puppies won't be rejoicing on the Quidditch Pitch.
Puppies will be at least moderately pleased in the Head student office.

And for anyone freaking out about threats of sex scenes: I can't write anything graphic to save my liiife. I think of Allison Janney in "Ten Things I Hate About You" and I just can't. I'm a fade-to-black kind of girl. (Not that there's anything fade-to-blacky going on in Chapter 32... (I don't know yet, actually), but I felt I should touch on this.)

Much love to everyone, and thank-you for the feedback on "Snaps," which I just checked and has 51 reviews. Oh my god, you guys, thank you!

Have a wonderful, wonderful day/night/whatever.
Love,
Jules

P.S. what the hell? Excerpt?

“Well,” she began stiffly, “I suppose—rubbish as it is—I’m sympathetic.”
 “To... Shelley?”
“No, not to Shelley. She’s a stupid bint.”

  2. oh, thank you =)

P.S. edited and now there's a teensy excerpt.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Sorry about your life being a complicated mess. Hope it's fine now. We're all happy to know you are still alive. I still havn't read Snap(the exams and homeworks have kept me busy) but I'm sure that it'll be great when I will.

BTW, when have you ever been grouchy on this blog?

    ReplyDelete
  4. That.had better not be. Donna. talking about. shelley.

Cause' they are fucking in love with each other, dammit.

    ReplyDelete
  5. oh my god, lauren, I'm loling so hard right now.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Even you, Jumbledore, can't deny the obvious heated passion between the two. I'm amazed there hasn't been a fade-to-black sex scene yet. I think you need to reconsider your characters and the realistic actions they would have taken, because obviously you're missing the boat.

  7. I hope everything is okay and that you get all the bacon/toast and hugs ever and that your tree gets lots of good soil, sunlight, and water (er, in other words, R&R). Also, "Snaps" was absolutely adorable and clever.

    - Puppies will be at least moderately pleased in the Head student office.
    Team Puppy cheers!

    @Lauren: LOL but also *Darth Vader-esque Nooooooooooooooo* at Shelley/Donna. Shacklebojack 4eva. :D

    ReplyDelete
  8. Donna's just fun to ship with people 'cos her last name works so well in couple names!

Oh, and I can say there's a few paragraph long CheckingDonnaOut scene in Chapter 32...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jules, whether you are a writer or a tree or one of those weird human beings with that thing called a life, you are a magnificent creature. And you happen to have a rabid following of obsessive James and Lily lovers who would probably be will to wait for you to update until December 21, 2012.

But, y'know, it would be nice if we didn't have to.

And oh my god, if you start writing about James' quivering member I might actually die.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Wait...I'm confused.
    What's shacklebojack shipping? Donna annnnnd....?

    Jack Sparrow!?

Though seriously-- am I like the stupidest LAT fan? I can't think of anyone named Jack

    ReplyDelete
  11. ^omg lolol. Donna and Jack Sparrow would be amazing! Lathe's first name is Jack. :)

@Jules: Hehe, true...so many possibilities. My traitorous mind came up with names for Shelley/Donna: Donnelley, Mumbolt, Shacklebelley.

@E.J.: Are you going to do an awesome L/J interpretation of the Ch. 32 stuff listed above? ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lathe's first name is Jack??? How have I missed that!??!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, Marie, since you asked so nicely (and since I am fed up with working on all my finals and just need a break) I think I will do some interpretations.
    Let's see...

Bridget Shacklebolt makes a return...and runs into Lily as she kisses James.
Marlene and Prudence have a chat...when they catch Lily kissing James.
Donna helps Marlene with something...because Lily is busy kissing James.
Donna, Lily, and--to a lesser degree--Remus have crises of conscience...because Carlotta caught Lily kissing James. No one else cares that her feelings got hurt. And Donna was confunded.
James has a touch of insecurity...but then Lily kisses him and everything is back to normal.
Sirius has a touch of angst...that is cured when he sees Lily kissing James.

Puppies won't be rejoicing on the Quidditch Pitch...because Lily is not on the Quidditch team so there is obviously no chance to kiss James while he's at practice.
Puppies will be at least moderately pleased in the Head student office...when Lily kisses James.

And, don't even pretend otherwise Jules, we all know I'm right this time!

    ReplyDelete
  14. NOOO NOT THE QUIDDITCH PITCH THAT IS A SACRED PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope your life/tree continues to err grow healthily with your wonderful gardening skills :) You know you can get swan shaped watering cans, just in case you'd like to make a worthy investment.

    ReplyDelete
  15. E.J has once again come up with the goods.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Aw hey, take all the time in the world. God knows most of us have had our life smashed to the ground and thoroughly smashed beneath the six-inch heels of a very fat lady, at some point or another.

So as long as you don't desert us for good, we'll be happily waiting for the next chapter (I, at the very least, will).

    ReplyDelete
  17. Interesting tree analogy, but it's good that you chose a tree.. Trees grow upwards and outwards with care, which is definitely something of which you seem capable. We faithful readers certainly have faith. Nonetheless, good luck with everything!

"Snaps" was a wonderful fic (autocorrect changed that to "fix" which is also very appropriate). I thought it was definitely enough related to LaT for me to not be completely distraught over not having a chapter. James' thoughts on matters have been missed... It's good to know that there will be more of that in LaT (since we see him being insecure).

I hope Bridget hasn't done something to anger/disappoint Donna... or maybe she will provide her with some sagely advice because Donna seemed angry (angrier/upset/more in a glaring mood) before?

Since Donna and Adam are speaking more often, is it Marlene and Donna speaking about him? (Or Donna answering questions quickly since she's Donna..?)

Crises of conscience and angst are always fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Lauren, 1. Donna and Shelley can't ship bc their shipper name would be Shacklemumps...and that just sounds like something Carlotta has probably had...also, bc Shacklebojack.. I'm sure he can tell her wonderfully dirty things in German, then Jules can fade to black

Jules - "Oh, and I can say there's a few paragraph long CheckingDonnaOut scene in Chapter 32... " I feel like you said Lathe won't make an appearance he, though I really hope I'm wrong....but could it be Clancy, checking out the (former) competition which leads to her dumping Plex and realizing the BAMF that Remus is?

    ReplyDelete
  19. "No... she's a stupid bint."

    I lol'd.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "Oh, and I can say there's a few paragraph long CheckingDonnaOut scene in Chapter 32... "

Seems fun, hope we get to see Donna angry (unless it's by Lathe).

    @E.J. "Donna was confounded " excellent reason ! I don't really see her having a conscience ^^

    ReplyDelete
  21. so i'm a little new to this, but what is team puppy?

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was from a a comment someone made around Ch 27 that if James and Carlotta get together, she would have to kill a puppy...so James/Carlotta are the puppy killers and anyone who ships James/Lily (or anti-ships James/Carlotta) are Team Puppy

    ReplyDelete
  23. @anon 9:22 - team puppy is what we call Carlotta haters because every time she gets in the way, a puppy dies.

BTW - I feel like we should have a team kitten. Maybe anything that has to do with that ponce, Charlie Plex.

And my guess is the excerpt is from that convo between Donna and Marlene.

Take your time Jules. The tree analogy was appropriate because your story has grown and branched out into the many hearts of your loyal followers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. LOL I love this blog....

@Sarah: Shacklemumps is totally my shipper name for them too! And Lathe speaking dirty German...unf. I need that man back in my life. And by my life I mean...not really my life. But you know what I mean.

@Jules: I'm sorry to hear about your tree! Just out of curiosity, what type of tree would you say you are? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Heh, I always thought Carlotta is dangerous to any furry animal. Team Kitten, to me, is what would form on the horrible, awful day Sirius and Carlotta get together.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jules, do you have a picture of what you imagine Lathe to look like? I am oh-so-curious...

    ReplyDelete
  27. ^go check January's posts.

So. Thanks for telling us, Jules. Wishing you all the best in your life endeavors.
Take your time and I'd be lying if I were to say that I wasn't eager but you know what? It's ok cuz I'm ready to wait. :)

Meanwhile- I'm a little scared and I feel a bit nauseous about the Quidditch Pitch business. Must. Hold in. Puke.
    SO EXCITED.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Kelsey I'm thinking The Whomping Willow.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Sara - that seems a little ominous. Jules isn't that cruel (sans the puppy killing)

    ReplyDelete
  30. So today at work was Employee Appreciation Day, which basically meant they gave us free candy...but, I think we should have a Jules appreciation day. I would nominate July 8, but that seems rather far away

    ReplyDelete
  31. May 7. 2 months before the premiere. Or June 7. Idk.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh Jules, we're all just happy your tree hasn't fallen over. Take your time with writing and eat loads of bacon since it's good for the soul. If you get sick of bacon mac & cheese is just as good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Erin lol I just meant because her tree seems to be pretty violent lately. i'm sure most of the time her life resembles a nice birch or oak tree :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. What about California Redwood?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Marie Shacklebelley is possibly the greatest name ever :]

@Erin I'm all for joining Team Kitten.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jules you can't write graphic sex scenes of James and Carlotta because the universe doesn't want you to. It will be a different story for James and Lily :P

    ReplyDelete
  37. ps Lauren i now ship Donna/Shelley even more than i ship Lily/James.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Sara: lol whomping willow was my first thought too, for the same reason. Also b/c Jules is a BAMF.

@Kayla: Would Shacklebelly/Shacklemumps/Shellybolt/etc. be inspiring any of your fantastic artwork perchance? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I want Shacklebelly to be Donna's nickname when she's preggers with Lathe's baby

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hey, does everyone here have a facebook? I'm thinking of making a page for the life and times...

    ReplyDelete
  41. ^That was me, btw. Sorreee.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Sarah-epic win nickname

    ReplyDelete
  43. So, I've made a facebook page for LaT and it's called 'The Life and Times by Jewels5' so feel free to go type that in and like it.
    Aight cool.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like the California Redwood idea, being a primarily northern california gal. We even had a giant one on our backyard when I was younger because the people who lived in the house before us planted one for a school assignment, and then, bam 200 feet tall.

Lol otherwise, I have no idea. Maybe an apple tree. I love apple trees.

@Shay--awwww that is so cool! Gracias!

And, btw, this thread is so quality. "Shacklebelley" OMG.

And Happy Cinco de Mayo one and all =P

    ReplyDelete
  45. Better to be a tree than a bush. Oh, bam, I just made a presidential joke. Which makes me think how awesome life would be if Jumbledore was prez.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @E.J.: Yay, thank you! Your wonderful interpretation is...well...wonderful. :D Hope you're almost done with finals ~

    ReplyDelete
  47. For Jules's day: June 8 (the day she published her first fanfiction)? It should be April 26, but that just passed. *headdesk*

    ReplyDelete
  48. Kayla-

    Heeeeell Yeeeeeeah!
    Shacklemumps for life

Also: have you been making some Donna & Shelley art??? Kelsey asked something about the ship inspiring your art. If so I want to see!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jules, as a tribute to Team Puppy, I dutifully suggest you add a little memorabilia, such as a wandering puppy. . . . . . alone . . . . . . .soon to be captured, and wickedly laughed at like Cruella Devil. . . . . . . and then SAVED!! BY LILY AND JAMES!!! :)

    Just a errant thought.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Kelsey i would definitely love to make an artwork of Shacklemumps! Though nothing can top 'she was dark...but i was darker'.I am gonna get on that tonight. Their love is so beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lauren i haven't before...but i am in the middle of something, and oh my god - it is intense lmao. I'll post it when it's done ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  52. WE WE SO EXCITED Thanks Kayla, I don't know what we'd do without your brilliance ;)

    ReplyDelete
  53. here it is lolol

  54. I feel like I should warn you Shacklemumps shippers about Chapter 32...
but I'll let you have your moment.
    =P

    ReplyDelete
  55. Any negative interaction between the two is all a show. We know how they are in private.
    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  56. In the dark, you might say....

    ReplyDelete
  57. KAYLA! Bless you, child!

    And Jules:
Kayla's right. Those two are sneaking behind your back and getting it on.

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Kayla: omg bahaha.

@Jules, Jenn, E.J., and other Fringies: WHAT KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT?!?!?!?!?! :(

    ReplyDelete
  59. Marie. Marie. Mariemariemariemariemariemariemarie.

I think that wins the Fringe finale mindfuck award.
At the end of season 1, I kinda guessed that THAT'S where Olivia had gone. The last shot was amazing and epic and had great shock value, but the whole concept of it didn't COMPLETELY blow me away.
Season 2 finale, I was shocked by "You belong with me," but not by the switch. I had a feeling they switched when the bomb went off. So, while I was still left craving the new season, the mindfuck factor was minimal.

    Season 3 finale:
HOLY GENE MY MIND HAS DIED.

    ReplyDelete
  60. OH man. Fringe. Fucking fringe man. I cannot even. I don't know what we're supposed to do! where do we go from here!? PETER! and OLIVIA! ALL OF IT AND EVERYTHING!
FRINGE DOES TERRIBLE, BEAUTIFUL THINGS TO MY HEART. Jesus christ.

    ReplyDelete
  61. my bat mitzvah is today. wish me luck team puppy...

    ReplyDelete
  62. LOL I'm loving all this Donna/Shelley shipping, it's absolutely hilarious! Jules, your fans are crazy! =D

But as a name, I prefer Marie's suggestion of 'Mumbolt'. I laughed so hard when I saw that, I choked on my own saliva. (TMI?)

And Fringe finale = brain explodes.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Just for you, Jules:

  64. My pleasure, Jules!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. GUYS GUYS GUYS!
I HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FINALE YET?!
I had to go to my sister's play and then met some friends for drinks.
AND TODAY FAMILY IS COMING OVER SO I STILL CAN'T WATCH IT!
    GUYS I'M SCARED
    YOU'RE ALL SCARING ME!
    AHHHHH.

Man. I need to type less in caps. This is getting ridiculous... But seriously, this finale is scaring the shit out of me and I haven't even watched it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  66. @820- lol!!!!

    Oh poor Jenn!
The finale was so good, don't even worry. The end may cause sudden death, but other than that: SO quality.
    And spoilers..................
    astrid has straight hair.

(P.S. EJ and other fringe-watchers ((actual spoilers this time, Jenn, so don't read if you haven't watched yet)): I love how they didn't bother trying to age Olivia. They just cut her hair and were like, Yeah, she's 45 now. same with basically everyone else except Peter, and he didn't exactly look 47 either. Nina? looks exactly the same lol)

    ReplyDelete
  67. So I just had a giant argument with my mother about the love of James and Lily. I went with the "louder wins" route and my mom stared at me like I'm nuts :]
I figured you guys would understand my passion.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Guys I just watched it.
I am no longer going to post on this page, because I'm dead.
I'm using the last of my telepathic powers to type this to you beyond the grave.
    Goodbye my loves.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hello fellow LaT followers. There's so much Doctor Who talk going on on this blog that I often feel out of the loop, so I decided to watch the new episode when it aired. Gotta say, though, that it' wass kind of lame... I don't get why people are so obsessed with it... What's with the hype?

    ReplyDelete
  70. It is usually a lot better, and to understand some of this episode you have to watch the previous 2, try watching from season 1 of the new-who

    ReplyDelete
  71. try watching with David Tennant, he's THE Man !

    ReplyDelete
  72. lol, same, my friend got me to watch doctor who and it made no sense whatsoever. really confusing show.

    ReplyDelete
  73. OMG, David Tennant is the epitome of the Doctor. Maybe even better than Tom Baker (sorry mom!). I was so sad to see him go.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I've been watching it the last week or so starting with season 1 (from 05'), and I think it's good.

Well....it's not AMAZING. I have a hard time getting past a lot of the...er...plot holes I guess. However, I will say that you can't help but love the Doctor character. The dialog is also very well done.

I just finished watching the Shakespeare episode from season 3, and nearly died laughing from the Harry Potter references. lordy, even the Doctor cried from reading book 7.

    ReplyDelete
  75. what plot holes ??

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well, the Doctor never talks about me, that's a freakin wide plot hole !

    ReplyDelete
  77. I love Dr. Who, but I don't think it would make any sense to me if I had just watched the pirate episode yesterday (or any one random episode, really).

@Erin- Tom Baker is forever my favorite doctor, but Peter Davison, David Tennant, and Matt Smith are all pretty much tied in second.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Doctor Who is EXTREMELY plot-holey, and the way the day is saved at the end is always bizarre and Deux-Ex-Machina-ish and the last episode was more plot-holey and nonsensical than usual. You shouldn't use that as a starting point. By and large it's not amazing or clever (except for the odd episode, like 'Blink'), but it's fun and cute. Although I've got to admit, even though I watch it every week, even I don't get why it's so popular...

    ReplyDelete
  79. What channel does doctor who air on? Is it in the US only?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Def not in the US only, as its a British show.

In the US it's on BBC America.

Dr Who isn't straight up science fiction in the strictest sense (i.e. it's not terribly concerned with science), which is why it might seem "plot-holey" to some. It really gravitates towards fantasy.
And of course the solution is bizarre and deus ex machina (doctor-ex-machina?). That's not accidental: that's a staple of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Aren't you supposed to be dead, Voldy? Or did you cast Avada Kedavra on yourself and get turned into a sparkly vampire?

Dr. Who used to be aired on SciFi (now SyFy [don't know what the f is up with that name]), but they stopped a few years ago.

And I'm not saying Baker isn't great, but Tennant is sexier. Also, is it just me, or is the Doctor getting younger?

    ReplyDelete
  82. To each their own Doctor. :)

    ReplyDelete
  83. It's not silver, but still Sirius (plus a few years) in a fedora

Sorry, bored with the Dr Who conversation...

    ReplyDelete
  84. lol sarah.

    matt bomer is quite attractive.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Matt Bomer is amazingggg.

He is like 90-100% of the reason that I watch White Collar. And he is so Sirius-y

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hi Jules!

How are you? Has life settled down enough to start writing TLaT again?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Lol Sarah I love you

    ReplyDelete
  88. @Sarah That made me giggle :] a lot.

So Jules... If you plan to update anytime soon it should be this week rather than next week so I can actually take my finals without being distracted by the hope for an update :] Please? I'll bake you cookies. Or cupcakes. I'll give you my soul...perhaps that's a bit far but does it demonstrate how much I want an update?

    ReplyDelete
